    MCI500H - speakers ports dead

    Hi all,

My Philips Streamium Wireless Micro Hi-Fi System MCI500H was ok until about week ago then sound started to get choppy, then with choppy sound started crackling noise and first left speaker stopped then yesterday right speaker was also mute – cracking noise still coming out of right port when speaker is connected.
I’ve tested speakers and both are perfectly fine.
Also unit itself is fine as I get normal sound when I connect headset to headset port on the top of the unit.
This leads me to believe that both speakers ports are faulty.

Does anyone know what do I need to buy to fix this? Or maybe something is lose inside on the speakers ports so maybe I should open it and have a look?

    Thanks you in advance,
    Mladen

    Hi Mladen,

Have you tried doing the obvious by any chance? Namely, Resetting the device (unplugging and reconnecting the power plug)? If this doesn't help, restoring to factory settings perhaps?\
If this doesn;t help-> service it! (Unless anyone else here has a better idea)

Hope any of this helps! Good luck!
    Cheers,
    WW

No worries, sorry i couldn;t help though! Have you tried calling the customer service for your country? Maybe they will figure sth out! http://www.support.philips.com/suppo...userCountry=gb not sure where you live, that's the link for the UK, but there are contact details for all other countries too.

    Good luck!
    Cheers,
    WW

Repair centre for Philips in Ireland is not very helpful. I’m surprised as Philips used to be THE brand to go to back in 80’s and 90’s . There is only 2 repair centres and one close to me is not answering phones or emails.
Anyhow, I’ve found out this is quite a common problem with this Philips unit and it affects a lots of customers. You can find a lots of exact same problems if you search the internet. Looks like quality control is not what it used to be.
    Board is fried.
    Board part number: 3141 073 50983

You will see lots of people looking for this replacement part.
I’ll try a few more days to get in touch with Philips authorized repair center and if no luck I’m going to publish all this in local newspaper. People need to be made aware what they are getting into when purchasing Philips products.

I’ll keep you updated on progress..

    Hi Mladen,
I was wondering if you could give me/us an update. Our MCi500's left speaker stopped working yesterday and we're wondering what to do with it.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Sebastiaan

That is exactly how it happened with my unit. First one speaker stopped working then the other.
Turns out capacitors on the board all leaked. See images of my board above. You can check it for yourself if you open the unit.

My unit is with Philips authorized repair center and I’m waiting for the status update.

Thanks for your reply. I've checked and the board looks a lot like yours so now we'll have to decide if it's worth repairing or cheaper to just buy something new. Maybe I could find a replacement board on the internet, that will probably be a lot cheaper than sending it in.

It's annoying, it was working great until a few days ago.

    Hi Sebatiaan,

I’ve searched everywhere including ebay and I was not able to find them. Maybe you will have better luck.
I would highly recommend getting in touch with authorised service centre to get it repaired.
Don’t let my previous comments put you off getting in touch with service centre. My problem really was that I was not able to get in touch with repair center. Emails went unanswered and when I called them on provided number option menu asked you to select option 2 for Philips. After pressing 2 I would be on hold for a bit then automated massage would play “your call cannot be completed..”.
Thankfully whatever the issue was this is now resolved and phones are working fine.
When Mci500 came out it was around £500. Repair will not cost more than £100. There is nothing out there with this level of features and internal 160Gb hard drive for the cost of repair. I think it’s definitely worth repair costs.
