    BDP8000, no bitstream ?

    Hello,

I just bought a Philips BDP8000 bluray player last week, and I think it's a great player, I love it.

The only thing I am wrestling with at the moment is getting (HD) bitstream audio working. I selected bitstream in the player-setup, and I connected a Denon 1908 HD audio receiver via HDMI (1.3). However, the BDP8000 is not sending bitstream audio to the receiver, but instead decodes the audio itself and sends PCM to the receiver.

I want my receiver to do the decoding. It supports HD audio like DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby HD just fine.

I already updated my firmware to v1.53.

Can you help me with this issue ?

Yes, it seems to be the same problem.

However, no solution was posted in that thread. It seems the person who started that thread got a personal message about it. I am hoping a solution can be posted here, so everyone can benefit

    Dear Prime,

Thanks for giving us extra information for your issue.

Our testing team tried to reproduce your issue, but unfortunately we could not. The BDP8000 is outputting bitstream to a Denon AV receiver. Summary of results:

    HDMI Audio
[Bitstream] = receiver gets bitstream audio
[Auto] = receiver gets PCM audio

Hence, we would like to ask you for a list of your problem discs so that we can try to reproduce the exact issue.Kindly tell us the EAN (the number under the bar code) and the title name of the disc. You can send us the list via PM.

    Thanks so much in advance,

    Dear madam/sir,

For every Blu-Ray disc that I tried, a PCM signal is offered to my receiver when the disc has HD sound.

A concrete example : The 'Life' documentary on Blu-Ray (EAN 8717344737739) has both 'normal' Dolby Digital 5.1 as 'HD' Dolby Digital / DTS HD sound tracks. When I select 'normal' Dolby Digital 5.1, the BDP8000 outputs bitstream to my receiver. So far so good. But when I select a HD sound signal (Dolby Digital HD or DTS HD), the BDP8000 outputs PCM. I specifically pick 'bitstream' in the BDP8000 setup.

This is the case for every single Blu-Ray that I tried. I can't seem to get bitstream out of it when I play a disc with HD sound. For 'normal' (non-HD) sound tracks I do get bitstream.

I hope you can help me with this issue. I saw another thread on this forum from a fellow who seems to have had the same issue, but in that thread I do not see a solution. I think you sent him the solution via a private message ?

I hope I can get a solution as well...

    Thanks in advance

P.S. I also sent you this in a private message.

    Dear madam/sir,

I was 100% sure that my Denon 1908 AV receiver could decode HD audio tracks, but after double-checking the manual it seems it cannot. It does have HDMI 1.3, but no HD decoders, only normal DD and DTS and LPCM. So it seems that the BDP8000 is totally correct in sending bitstream for DD/DTS and LPCM for HD audio.

Sorry for the inconvenience, I was totally sure that my receiver could decode HD audio, but I was wrong...
