O o typo blurs. In this 5180 topic. To wrap up correctly.
Zwartij has a 5180/12 and tried to stream from pc with Windows7 Mediastreamer. .mkv is not showing
Friend has also a 5180/12 trying from Synology NAS. .mkv shows in the folder but doesn't show on the screen
(we used the same .mkv)
Friend has also a Samsung BDP and from the same Synology NAS ... it works perfectly together

Installed minidlna as dlna streaming service on my pc with linux and guess what happened? .mkv plays nice and flawless!
So WMP, although included the .mkv add-on, fails. Not my bdp5180.
So I rate my Philips with an eight.
What are the missing points? The elementary browser used for video and folder look up.
So still room for improvement, always good for the developers to stretch the features.

minidlna homepage url
http://sourceforge.net/projects/minidlna/. Google on 'minidlna' guides you to lot of information and howto. My linux distribution MandrivaLinux had an rpm package ready to roll.

HTS9221 streaming from Turbostation 239 Pro II using Twonky works fine in general for all formats so far: AVI,MPG,MP4,MKV
I only experienced one issue so far, described here:
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...Playback-issue
So it seems, that the streaming ist at least starting fine - and on different MKV-files I experienced similar issues. Starting ok and after approx 20-30 min starting of jerking. Still trying to find out if it is the Codec, the individual files or the player.Last edited by mboesch; 08-31-2011 at 09:46 PM.

@mboesch: I think my bdp5180 has the same MKV issues (I don't know about other formats). Indeed, after 20-30 minutes the video stops every minute for about 10-15 seconds.
The same files work without problems on my tv (8605).
I hope the 5180 gets an update for this in the near future.

Hi mboesch,
which version of Twonky is running on your QNAP ? Have you tried streaming via the PS3 Media Server available for your device as QPKG?
The jerking you report happens with some AVIs and some MKVs on my BDP5180/12 as well when I stream the movies via Twonky from my Iomega NAS. But I never had a problem when I streamed the files with Tveristy from my computer.
2 days ago I bought a new router which also can act as mediaserver for stuff on connected USB devices (Netgear WDNR3700) and quess what....no problems when streaming AVIs and MKVs. No Jerking, no freezing, even for 1080p material, FF and RW work with 32x speed. Chapters and subtitles also work fine.
Even my Philips TV (42PFL7655K02) is suddenly able to FF and RW streamed media from the router with a speed of at least 4x or 8x (hard to say, since the speed is not displayed) but feels like 8x. FF and RW has not been possible until now for streamed media on this device.
There seems to be a big compatibility issue between Twonky (especially older versions) and Philips devices. You can try to update the Twonky version on you NAS to 6.0.34, since QNAP offers a very good support for their devices,
http://forum.qnap.com/viewforum.php?f=213
or you can try to use a differnt Media Server for your NAS for example PS3 Media Server:
http://forum.qnap.com/viewforum.php?f=212
There are also other Media Server applications available for QNAP devices, but i quess their installation is not as easy as with a QPKG-Package.

@Shurakai:
thanks for your reply!
I currently use Twonky 6.0.33. I will check the udpate and yes, I have seen that there is now a whole bunch of other DLNA Servers available as QPKG. Will check them out too.

I would give it a 6.
I own a BDP7500B2/51. It is not possible to control what's on the player from the PC. I would sometimes prefer that instead of using the remote control to browse the PC. I want to be able to use the "Play to" feature in Windows Media Player 12 along with this player. A firmware update which enables this would be greatly useful.

I give it a 3. It's hard not to rate the coolness of the actual DLNA feature, so I'm rating only Phillips' implementation.
First of all it doesn't display any images when selected from the TVs interface, only when sent from devce. Secondly it's won't starting streaming a video which isn't fully downloaded yet. And third there are no support for subtitles. But once the movie is on it's at least working....

DLNA servers are tablets, PCs but most of all my asus wireless router.
