Will try tonight with another fresh formated USB pen...
But not sure it will change anything as I already performed following firmware changes:
- got TV with 64.15 installed (no issue)
- update via USB to 64.18 (no issue)
- update via USB to 171.49 (no issue)
- update via USB to 171.51 (issue)
- downgrade via USB to 171.49 (issue)
- update via TV (integrated web download) to 171.51 (issue)
then factory reset and TV reinstall (issue)Last edited by FredFBe; 08-02-2013 at 07:11 AM.

Any news on the next version? It's been a month since the previous update and the 24p ambilight flashing bug is still very very annoying!

Hi,
usually it takes more than one month until the next update is released - often more that two...
I think, around IFA in september a new update could be make available...
But we will see...

Seen all the reported bugs by allot of people it seems time that Philips does release a decent fw update.

There was only a week between the 171.49 and 171.51 versions.
And considering the fact there are still plenty of bugs present (24p ambilight flashing, YouTube app not accepting keyboard input, HDMI startup issues), I would expect Philips to deliver an update sooner. Maybe they should try concentrating on bug fixing first and worry about adding new features later.

Totally agree with mauriceW, Philips not responding to any of the complaints is getting pretty annoying now.

I do not agree.
This forum has some very active Philips administrators who give useful info and helps a lot, being in direct contact with developer team.
For instance, about the Ambilight flashing issue (with 24p content), JuAn answered they are aware of the issue but their initial attempt to fix it quickly has introduced regression. Meaning dev team is testing changes and Philips does not want to release anything in a hurry, making people even more unhappy because more buggy !

We are still talking about a + €1900,- television which doesnt do what Philips is telling it should do. While paying this amounts of money for a TV should be a some kind of safety that you buy a decent tv. The bugs we are talking about arent simple annoying things, these are massive disfunctions which should be taken care of immediately! Why buy a 2k ambilight tv while the ambilight doesnt function? Deliver a remote with a keyboard, which you can't use? You gotta be honest, this just sounds crazy?!
Indeed, software issues are a part of a software driven TV, we all should be aware of that. But, expecially for the top class TV's, philips should set their priorities at fixing this kind of software issues their well paying customers are asking for.
I'ts their simple right to complain!

That's why i always say : wait with update the tv and read the revieuw from others.
Normaly yes idd you can downgrade and wait for the next release, now wait for next release.
nobody can change it

Welcome to the wonderful world of modern devices, all having very complex software embedded.
Whatever the device price is, you will have bugs.
Even more when you buy a brand new released product (which is the case here, TV model is only 3 months old)...
Nowadays, having a competent and available support is one critical aspect to be taken into consideration before buying anything. I still do believe Philips support is available and listen to customer complaints, trying to solve problems.
Just read other official support forums (like WD's one) and you will see the difference...
After that, there is a question of software quality and time to fix bugs. Working in IT, I can assure you it is 200% preferable to wait 1 or 2 months for a correct fix than 1 or 2 weeks for a bugged one (as long as bug is not critical, ie making the device inoperative).
Regarding the "critical" issues you speak about, do you really believe it makes your TV unusable ?
Ok this is frustrating (even more looking at TV price, I do agree totally!) but Philips has acknowledge the issues and has promised some corrections. What else ?
Ambilight flashing: if this is really boring to you, just turn AL off. Then you will have a TV identical to all other brands, with even a better picture quality and all in all, for around the same TV price as competitors (if not less, so please do not say you have "paid for Ambilight", other main brands -without Ambilight- are not cheaper for similar TV range).
Youtube keyboard: if I am correct, issue is due to Google who has disabled keyboard support in their latest application release = please do go complain to Google support...
Just be patient, as all other Philips TV owners

my HDD is not recognised anymore after powering on my TV
My set-up: 40PFL008K TV
attached peripherals:
- Telenet CIPlus CAM module
- LG Soundbar connected via HDMI
- Lacie designed by Porsche 100Gb usb harddrive
I went through the complete installation process of the TV. The harddrive was formatted for timeshift use. The TV indicates that at least 250Gb hard drive is needed to be able to record on it, however this 100Gb hard drive also allows me to make recordings (which I like of course).
So, the TV is decoding Telenet channels using the CIplus card of the Belgian operator, no problems encountered with this so far. When pressing the pause button the TV is able to pause the picture and timeshifting functionality is working fine.
Using the EPG recording feature I could even schedule a recording. (which was not always successful, probably because of the reason below)
The problem is that after putting the TV to standby and waking it up the next day, the harddrive is no longer recognized by the TV. :-( So when pressing the pause button on the remote contol it wants be to go through the formatting procedure again. (I notice that the harddrive is spinning, so power is applied to the harddrive).
If I disconnect the usb cable and reconnect it manually, most of the time the hard drive is recognised . When pressing the pause button it works again and my previously recorded programs can also be accessed and replayed without problems...
So, it seems the TV has problems finding and mounting my usb harddrive.. For the same reason my scheduled recording during the night failed it indicated 'hard drive not found' I have used this harddrive frequently before with my PC and never experienced issues. So, seems a perfectly normal harddrive.
Anybody else experiencing the same? It is very annoying having to plug-in and out the harddrive every day.
