SA4MUS16KF/12 problem with playing WAV files
Oi !
I have player SA4MUS16KF/12 with firmware 1.12 and big problem with playing LPCM WAV 44/16 files. Player don't recognize these files as playable format, i see on display only statement "not supported format". These files are purchased for eg. on Juno or TrackIt, but also rendered by me from CD's by Windows Media Player v.12 or Nero. So curious master files exported from Samplitude in format WAV 24/48 are playable without any problem. I don't have idea what's going on ?
Thanks !

Oi!
Are you using SongBird or drag and drop to transfer the files? If you are using Philips Songbird, these files should be converted to the correct format to be supported by the device.
Cheers,
WW

When i use drop and drag transfer player don't recognize WAV files, but when using Songbird - WAV files are converted to MP3. That no make sense on that player, sound quality (of course with good headphones) is really great, not comparable to any other mp3 player, rather to good audiophile CD player (i'm very nice shocked on that) - finally MP3 on that player sounds really poor (very old, bad format), only WAV files or high bitrate WMA (unfotunatelly available only in Microsoft WMA coder) sounds very well. When i open these WAV files (44/16 LPCM) in Samplitude and save as the same format - player well recognize WAV files without any problem (don't have any idea why ?!?).

After many experiments i know what's going on !!!
That player not recognize WAV files which have ID tags inside - after open and saving (the same format) with any audio editor files lose ID tags and are well recognize by player as playable format :-D Hope be fixed in next firmware edition.
Sorry for little offtop, but after updating firmware to version 1.17 player does not shown all albums (in MP3 or WMA format) under MUSIC position in menu, these are accesable only from FOLDER menu. It's a little weird, because the same albums was visible absolutely normal under firmware 1.12. My question - is there any possibility of back to firmware 1.12 in my player ?Last edited by tr21; 07-18-2013 at 09:30 AM.

Hi Tr21,
I'm glad to hear you managed to resolve the issue you had with the WAV files. I was dissapointed to learn that you can't access all your albums after the firmware upgrade. As to your question, it is not possible to reverse the upgrade and go back to the old version. We are currently investigating why this has happened and will inform you about the update shortly.
Thank you for your patience.
Kind regards,
Joanna

Hi Joanna !
Thanks for your response and attention.
I have some additional informations about problems with displaying albums under MUSIC menu in player, hope it be helpful for investigation.
It looks following :
Albums are shown absolutely well and all position on the list in alphabetical order up to album called "Fred Schneider - Fred Schneider & the Shake Society". After that album on the list shown only just some positions (about 60 perecent) and also without any album covers. But these invisible and displayed without cover albums be available under FOLDERS menu and during playing covers will be shown correct. I've no idea, maybe to long album name causes problems with proper displaying list under MUSIC menu ?
Greetings and low freq vibez from

Hi Tr21,
Thanks for your message.
I have some additional questions and possible solutions: Are you using Songbird to transfer the files? If you're transferring your files via Songbrid, please right click the file in Songbird to see if the album name is displayed correctly in the ‘Metadata’. If not, please highlight all the songs in that Album, right click the songs, click on View Metadata and edit the name of the CD. Rmember you can also search the album art online using Songbird.
After that, sync the files to the player again using Songbird. (To playsafe, deleting the original files and covering that with the new would be the best way to do it).
Thanks for your cooperation.
Regards,

Hi Joanna !
But this not right answer for question why player working well under 1.12 firmware and occur many problems under 1.17. I don't use Songbird because that program convert again my music in format MP3 or WMA again to MP3 - it be not necessary beacuse these files are playable without any problem by player. Converting again compressed music affect in really poor sound quality and very long time music upload to player (it be really crazy time when you try uloading 16GB music). Any other of my players like Cowon, Creative, Sandisk or iRiver don't have similar problems when i transfer music by drop'n'drag. Additionaly afetr flashing player to 1.17 firmware player resets often few second after switching power on at FOLDERS or MUSIC menu or during playing first track.
This is not a mission impossible to making good firmware, only few days spend at source code.
Greetings

Hi !
Is there any possibility to exchange my player to well working player with firmware in version 1.12 ? or replacing firmware to working version ?
In fact firmware 1.17 damage player : player freezes, resets many times pro day, player not recognize the same files (mp3 or wma) as playable format like under 1.12 firmware, no matter whether i use drop nad drag or Songbird player is completely unusable. Flashing i've done with the using UPS and clean computer, no idea whats going on ?
Greetings

Hi tr21,
I'm sorry to hear you are still experiencing problems with your SA4MUS16KF/12. If you wish to exchange your player, I'd suggest contacting the Customer Support team in your country, as they will be able to offer you support on this and tell you what can be done, and whether a replacement is possible. Unfortunately it is not possible to downgrade the firmware once it has been installed.
Thank you for your feedback on this one. I have passed it to our development team for further investigation.
Best regards,
