    No MP4 over DNLA (BDP5600)

All DLNA folders with MP4 content show up as empty ("no content").

The same folders show up and play correctly on other connected DLNA devices, but not on Philips.

That's the thing, the same files play perfectly from the USB ports. And the server (Serviio) also plays them perfectly on other devices.

    Dear MidnightManiac,

As per our testing, streaming MP4 via DLNA works.

Please advise which software version you have. Would you upload a file and send me through PM? Also, please advise what's the source of your DLNA playback (notebook/ tablet etc with brand and model).

    Kind regards,

    Thanks. Sounds interesting.

I will compile the information you request asap.

The player has not been updated (no fw updates available yet), I try to stream from the latest version of Serviio (1.2.1) on a HP laptop (Intel i7 with 8GB RAM). As mentioned my other (Sony) TV sees and plays all the mp4 files over DLNA.

Also, is it correct that there are no preview thumbnails nor subtitles?

    Thanks!

Intresting, I have the same experience with BDP9700. No mp4 files displayed when using serviio, but with the serversoftware XBMC and PLEX media server I can play them( and USB). So my first thought was it wasnt related to the player, more related to what kind of server-software.
But now you say that other devices can see them in serviio but not the BDP player makes it intresting to focus on the player again.

Both XBMC and PLEX are free. Have you tried them ?

OK, here's the info you requested:

    BDP5600/12 software version: 1.10
DLNA media Server: Serviio 1.2.1 (DLNA device profile: Philips 2010-)
Hardware: HP Pavilion laptop Intel i7 8GB RAM.

I'll upload a file and send you a link via PM, but as already mentioned it is not related to specific files, the player simply does not see any MP4 files. All folders containing MP4 show up as "NO CONTENT".

No I haven't tried any of the servers you mention. I used PS3 Media Server for years and now Serviio. As a matter of fact I posted another thread asking for a compatible/compliant server for this player.

Which of the two would you recommend?

I have used the same as you, used PS3 for a long time until there was an PS3update and my player didnt longer work with the new updated PS3 ( perhaps I will try it again now), so I ran with Nero Media Home 4. And that was the best,( no hickups, all files and formats, stability) but not for free :-) , so I started searching for other software. Serviio was the only one I liked, ( set what folders to be shown etc) and it worked on all the files I had. :-)
So I ran these side by side for a long time before i Unistalled Nero.

Now with win7 i have startup issues with serviio (since serviio update to 1.2.1) so I have to reinstall it everytime i want to use it. That made me google again and found XBMC witch have IMOA a terrible menusystem in the computer, developed for tv-game-devices and their playcontrol. It also hangs when I switch back and forth in the catalogsystem from my player.
Another forummember uses PLEX from his NAS without a problem. So I tried it and I cant play a single file from my player with plex. not mkv. -mp4 etc ( format not supported, my player says) But that perhaps got more to do with firewall setting and hundred other issues regarding windows and local network than "player and media software"
I see this kinda strange that there is so much differences in this universal language as DLNA. Bu who said this was going to be easy :-)

So try PLEX I think its going to work flawless for you ( holding thumbs) and report it back pls :-)

As you wrote in another thread about mkv, I experience the same but also differences between servers, chapters works better with some. Cant really put a finger on it just that some players and software works better than others.

    Thanks.

I'll do so. I would really like to have basic MP4 and proper MKV support.

But perhaps I'm asking for too much.

PS3 MS works for me too (mp4/mkv), BUT only with super basic start/pause functionality - so NO ffwd/rwd, no chapters, no time search and no subs.

PLEX shows all folder content BUT shows "unsupported file format" when trying to play.

SERVIIO fails to read mp4 content in folders completely.

I'll try the last server you suggested tomorrow.

    Dear users,

We have tried to reproduce your case with a Serviio DLNA server.
When this profile is changed to Generic DLNA profile, the MP4 files are now seen and can be played back.

Great news. One would've thought that the Philips DLNA profile would be the logic choice. In any case, will try this later. I'm very interested to see to what degree the format is supported...

On a related note, the same thing happens in PS3MS - when you select the "Philips TV" DLNA profile you lose all mp4 support ("No content" folders). To get mp4 support I run it with a Sony Bravia profile.
