    Arrow Technical feedback - FW 150.99 - for 6/7/8/9000 Series - 2012

    Hi all.

    The new software is live.

This thread is for technical feedback only. For other discussions please post in the related discussion thread. "Off topic" posts regarding the firmware will be moved to the discussion thread.

    For details please see here:
    http://philips.to/1z232ny

    Important:
After upgrading your TV, it is necessary to perform a "cold start". This means that, after the TV is running again (after the update), shut down the TV, wait 1 minute (till all components are shut down), and unplug the TV from the mains (pull power cord) for 2 minutes before starting again.

Please use the following template in this thread:

    ============================
    TV Model: 42PFL6907T
    Previous Firmware: 150.98

    Positive:
    + <none that I can see>

    Negative:
    - Color gradient flaw in the "Computer" mode (same happens in "Game" mode, too)
    - HDNM producing artifacts and jerky movement (especially with 60Hz computer signal) (with 24/30Hz the jerkiness mostly disappears, but artifacts remain)
    - Graphical User interface (GUI) is slow
    - Program guide has the program titles of Finland's YLE channels in Swedish, even when in Finland (TV bought from Finland)
    - Input lag is always high when 3D is enabled, even in Game and Computer modes
    - Dual Play -feature shows only half of the picture

    Feature request:
    - Make the un-used yellow shortcut button into a shortcut for Computer/Game mode

    ============================

    Additional details:

The negatives are by no means introduced by the recent firmware, they have been there since the initial release, for all I can tell (except for the Dual Play bug, which was introduced in 150.97). These same flaws have been brought forward multiple times, check 150.97 Technical feedback for more thorough details: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...ll=1#post75155

But here are two links to more detailed posts with regards to the color gradient bug, which I personally consider as the biggest inconvenience:

    TV Model: 46PFL9707S
    Previous Firmware: 150.98

    Positive:
+ Nothing that I have noticed yet.. maybe seems a little snappier i Smart TV mode.

    Negative:
    - Still a serious issue with color decoding with YCbCr reception in the "Game" and "Computer" modes, and it has been there from the beginning ..until now. Ex, skin color gets "reddish".
You have had this issue for more than 2 years and never done anything about it Philips. (goes away if you send the TV an interlaced signal, 60i,50i.)

    Hi everyone,

Thank you very much for reporting, it is highly appreciated.

Regarding the colour gradient issue you are experiencing. Have you tried to adjust picture screen and edges? You can do this by pressing House > Setup > TV Settings > Picture > Format and Edges > Picture shift, and then adjust screen and picture edges.

It would be very helpful if you had the chance to try this and let me know if this helps or changes anything. I can in any case assure you that it is being looked into.

    Best,
    Johann

    @Johann:

Yes, did try it. Nope, it didn't work. Here's a post with further details:
    http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...ll=1#post78812

    Here's the particular section quoted:

Additional details with regards to the last post of 150.98 Technical feedback, as a possible solution to the color gradient bug in Game/Computer modes:
The post advised to check the "Screen edges" and "Picture shift" settings. BUT: If Computer mode is selected, then the Screen edges -option is automatically disabled. Also, from Picture format options, the best selection for computer usage is naturally "Unscaled", as it will give (or rather FORCE) 1:1 pixel match, which is quite essential for computer users. And when choosing Unscaled, the Picture shift has no effect. Nevertheless, I also tested all the other Picture format options with Picture shift, and I can confirm that none of them fix the color gradient bug. With Game mode, the Screen edges option isn't disabled. So, I tried all the options with Game mode, too. But same result: no effect on the color gradient bug. Also, Game mode brings some blurriness. Computer mode is the only mode that gives a sharp image.

For further tests, I would advice to use Computer mode with Unscaled in the Picture format menu. As that's indeed the combination which will give the best results image-wise and input lag -wise. Unless, of course, you plan to fix other settings' blurriness and/or input lag.

    TV Model: 46pfl9707
    Previous Firmware: 150.98

    Positive:
+ less noise in the picture (especially noticable on SD content and channels but also on HD content)
+ better looking picture (than .97 and .98)

    Negative:
    - still some issues with sharpesness and minor pixelation (noticable on the edge of objects)
    - I will recommend to check the pixel drawing, may be some issues there (pixelation)
    - still some noise and pixels freezing when panoraming (looks like lag)

    Thumbs up Success !!

    Finally success

Last October I contacted Philips customer care in The Netherlands regarding the missing channel logo's for NPO 1, 2 and 3.
A problem I had for several firmware version already.
They made a promise to me that they would be implemented in the next update.
And success, they are back again!
    Thanks Philips.
