    Thumbs up Technical feedback - FW 150.92 - for 6/7/8/9xx7 Series - 2012

    Hi,

The new FW will be live soon.
Due to our global IT structure, there might be a delay in the uploading to our support websites.

    For details please see here:
    http://philips.to/1gZx7eZ

This thread is for technical feedback only. For other discussions please post in the related discussion thread. "Off topic" posts regarding the firmware will be moved to the discussion thread.

    Important:
After upgrading your TV, it is necessary to perform a "cold start". This means that, after the TV is running again (after the update), shut down the TV, wait 1 minute (till all components are shut down), and unplug the TV from the mains (pull power cord) for 2 minutes before starting again.

Please use the following template in this thread:

    TV Model: 42PFL6907T/12
    Previous Firmware: 150.89

    Positive:
    + 5-pixel shift fixed

    Negative:
    - Color banding on Computer/Game mode still exists

    Additional details:

I'm using the TV mainly with a computer, alternatively HDMI-HDMI and DVI-HDMI cable used. At the moment it's HDMI-HDMI.

I brought up the flaw in the Computer/Game mode with regards to color banding around the time of v150.87 (though only in the Experience thread), but it most probably has been around earlier than that. And it hasn't been fixed so far, it seems.

In "standard" mode, there's no banding (or it's relatively un-noticeable), but there's a hideous input lag (around 100ms), so the standard mode is practically useless for computer users and console players. And by "standard" mode, I mean selecting "OFF" from the "Game or Computer" options.

Here's a good place to test it:
    http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php

The difference should be quite visible when switching between Standard mode and Computer/Game mode. It shouldn't be just a case of 8-bit color depth showing as 6-bit, because it seems like the brightness goes non-linearly like this:
    1-5-3-7 (non-linear banding, 6-bit)

    instead of:
    1-3-5-7 (linear banding, 6-bit)

Which are actually both wrong, when it should be like:
    1-2-3-4-5-6-7 (linear gradient, 8-bit)

In any case, it should be possible to fix, as the problem is only affecting the Computer/Game mode...

    Same with the above

    TV Model: 40PFL7007K/12
    Previous Firmware: 150.87

    Positive:
    + 5-pixel shift fixed

    Negative:
    - Color banding on Computer/Game mode still exist.

I notice the banding instead of being black-grey-white, we can see a mix in the place aatu said. Black-grey mixed black-grey mixed white-white.

With Game/Computer Off there is no banding. Game/Computer - Game or Computer ON with each of them there is banding.

    TV Model: 40PFL7007K/12
    Previous Firmware: 150.89

    Positive:
    + 5-pixel shift fixed

    Negative:
    - Color banding on Computer/Game mode still exists
    - When using 3D no matter what mode, Game or computer mode is disabled- bug still exists. causing heavy stuttering and mouse lag in-games and a lot artefacts in movies.
    - HDNM has many imperfections in all kinds of scenes
    - HDNM off, to play without input lag. HDNM on in movies and games has alot of stuttering and artefacts in the picture randomly pop up in 2D and 3D.
    - 3D has a lot of double images and sometimes u need to go back to 2D or 2D to 3D convert to fix the double image issue in games, and it can be seen in movies with the random stuttering and artefact.
    - Improve amblight if u can, there is White light when the screen is black.
    - Improve the GUI so you can choose Picture settings with 1 left click instead going right down, then right and moving on the options.
    - Add Game/Computer Mode somewhere so it can be disable with a shortcut.

    TV model: 55PFL6007/12
    Previous firmware: 150.91

    Positive:
    - Random reboots seem to have gone (at least up to now)
    - HDNM seems smoother (but might be user perception)

    Negative:
    - Random picture freezes when watching TV(sound continues)

    More detail:
I've been enjoying my 55PFL6007/12 TV for quite some time now. Apart from the occasional HDNM artifacts (which i've learned to live with) i have an issue with the 150.091 and the just released 150.092 firmwares: while watching normal TV the picture freezes (but the sound continues). Switching to another channel, then back to the original one solves the issue (which might happen a few times per evening, once an evening or not at all...). Usually happens when watching RTL4 or RTL5 in the Netherlands (but that might just be because these channels are the most used ones). Also saw other users report this in the 150.091 thread.

Never experienced this with a pre 150.091 firmware and it's quite annoying. Can this be looked at and fixed?

    TV model: 46PFL9707
    Previous firmware: 150.89

    Positive:
+ HDNM is now working like it should
+ Texting is not pixelated anymore (On most channels)

    Negative:
    - Picture is less sharp and more pixelated than before (SD is more affected than HD - comparison is done with a Samsung 8-series)
    - noisy picture (same effect when noise reduction is set to off or max)
    - Edges of objects on screen is either flickering or uneven.
    - Game Mode makes the picture more pixelated and less sharp than before

    More details:
In update 150.89, I was able to avoid flickering and artifacts by using game mode.
I have previously owned a 32pfl4047 and the picture was sharper/less pixelated and without flickering, but the screen reflection was present and horizontal movement was also worse than on my current 46pfl9707.

Important: When testing firmware: Test tv-channels in HD and SD as well as bluray. The behavior of the tv responds different to those three signals, at least for me they do

    TV Model: 55PFL8007K/12
    Previous Firmware: 150.91

    Positive:
    +similar to 150.91

    Negative:
-VERY HIGH JERKY/JUDDER (horizontal) MOTION with MOVING TEXT
-too many steps for accessing Configuration/Image/ various parameters
-Internet TV guide: making OK on a listed program, channel Play not shown, only Record button shows

    Details:
-(same with 150.91 and other versions, the FAST MOVING HORIZONTAL TEXT like showing on publicity (HD picture) adverts has JERKY (horizontal) MOTION, making it, VERY BAD and UNREADABLE text (example http://dl.free.fr/iuexlnVVp ).
Switching from factory setting "Image Style=Film" (has PNM off) to "Standard" and back to "Film Image Style" ELIMINATES temporarily the issue, which demonstrates there MUST be an EASY FIX.
But after switching channels or TV restart, the issue comes back - is it PNM issue and auto-reactivation of PNM ?

-Suggestion for faster access with Remote Control:
OPTIONS/STYLE IMAGE: if you want to go to CONFIGURATION menu, you need to press 8 times on RIGHT key ! why not allowing a simple 1 LEFT key ?
Same concept for going UP or DOWN in menus: often it would be faster to go 1 KEY UP to go DOWN
Just be SMARTER than competition (this cost Philips nothing - I know I am an ex-Philips guy) and implement smartest solutions on this TV 8xx7 2012 serie.

    previous firmware 150.91

    + positive :
+ No more 5 pixel shift.
+ input lag is better in 3d mode than before, but still need improvement.

    - Same problem as x7007 in 3D, game mode and computer mode doesn't work, the fact is :
When the tv is in game mode or computer mode, i switch to 3D, watch a movie or play game.... ( with some stutter, and a bit of lag) then i switch off 3D, the TV still stay in normal mode (you can notice it with the lag and the picture quality)
I have to reboot the TV (faster than going in the slow menu and make the change) to activate the computer or game mode again.

    TV Model: 40PFL7007K/12
    Previous Firmware: 150.91

    Positive:
    + 5-pixel shift fixed
+ Quality is a bit better in game mode

    Negative:
    - When using 3D no matter what mode, Game or computer mode is disabled automatically - bug still exists (does not happen with 150.89 and any lower firmware) ( Happens to more people not just me ) . causing heavy stuttering and mouse lag in-games and a lot artifacts in movies.
    - Color banding on Computer/Game mode still exists
    - HDNM has many imperfections in all kinds of scenes
    - HDNM off, to play without input lag. HDNM on in movies and games has alot of stuttering and artifacts in the picture randomly pop ups in 2D and 3D.
    - Improve amblight if u can, there is White light when the screen is black.
    - Improve the GUI so you can choose Picture settings with 1 left click instead going right down, then right and moving on the options.
    - Add Game/Computer Mode somewhere so it can be disable with a shortcut.

    IMPORTANT

    - Need to IMPROVE performance & Stability of HDNM so we can we play some games that doesn't require Mouse.
    - Improve 3D Mode - Performance + Input-Lag
    - Make sure the 5-Pixel does not RETURN
    - Improve the GUI so you can choose Picture settings with 1 left click instead going right down, then right and moving on the options.
    - Add Game/Computer Mode somewhere so it can be disable with a shortcut.

EDIT : 150.89 has a bug with Game mode Enabled when going 3D, when going 3D Game mode is automatically enabled and you need to go enable Game mode and then disable it to get a status of Game mode Disable. ( meaning you can't use PNM or get the quality of TV processing for Video and Blueray).

EDIT : 150.91 - 150.92 has a bug with the Game mode Enabled when going 3D, when going 3D Game mode is automatically Disable and you can't play games in 3D mode. ( Meaning you get the HIGHEST Input-Lag and Stuttering in Games because of Game mode is disabled)

The latest firmware that doesn't have the bug is 150.87 !

    TV Model: 46PFL9707
    Previous firmware: ----

    Positive:
I bought this Tv new mid dec, so I don´t have any previous experience.

    Negative:
The TV have had hang-ups several times during a day, wich means that it don´t react to the remote control. the only thing to do is to turn it off by the switch on the Tv and wait some seconds.

Sometimes the sound gets delayed by several seconds. The cure is to switch the Tv off and on by the remote.

Sometimes the sound and the picture gets delayed by several seconds. It shows like the shown program repeate itself. Reset by switching on and off by remote.

The Lounge light doesn´t work, at least not as in the manual.

    Other improvements:
I would like to have picture of actual channel, when browsing in the "Program guide". Like the web-based program guide.
No comersials in the web-based program guide.
Some shortcut to show actual time overlayed the picture. Today you have to go to "Info" or "Guide" to get the time. By doing this you loose the picture, and the sound.
