Question not possible to select audio tracks / subtitles with MKV

    Hi,

I've recently tried playing (streaming) .MKV movies over my network. And I have 2 problems:
    1. I cannot select the audio track to use?
    2. I cannot see subtitles? (I tried .MKV files with subtitles inside AND .MKV files with seperate .SRT files)

Are there more people with the same problems? Or maybe someone can tell me how to do this?

    I have a 55PFL7008 with QF2EU-0.173.42.0 software.

    Thanks.

IIRC, the only way to use seperate subtitles is to ensure the movie/subtitles have the same filename (except extension), so "Movie2.mkv" + "Movie2.srt"... as for built-in subtitles, not sure if this is supported or not, so I can't speak on that case.

However, I do suggest you upgrade to FW version 173.44...

I've upgraded the software. Subtitles still don't work. I tried both build-in and standalone .srt files (with the exact same name as the .mkv). Also not able to select the audiotrack.

@ Philips: Can you tell me if this is a known issue or what I can do to solve this? Or if there's gonna be a firmware update for this? Especially the subtitles is a MUST to have!

OK, so today I've bought the Philips 40PFL4528H for in my bedroom. After installing the TV, I streamed an .MKV movie from my network. And I almost couldn't believe it ! Subtitles on this TV works just without any problems! I can even select the languages!

So HOW is this possible Philips?! I buy a cheap TV and everything works, I own an expensive TV and it doesn't work?!

    - the same .MKV movie on my 40PFL4528H: subtitles work OK, audio tracks work OK
    - the same .MKV movie on my 55PFL7008K: subtitles do NOT work, audio tracks do NOT work ?

Do the TV's have different media players ??? Can my 7008K be updated with the same media player as the 4528H please ?

    55pfl8007k :
External subtitles work only from USB HDD , internal (hardcoded) subtitles are not seen. But I can select audiotracks if there are hardcoded in mkv.
With DLNA/Twonky-PC or HDD attached to router NO subtitles available ! Not to mention abaout the lack of DTS !

Again, lame player feature for such an expensive TV ! And lame software support... How hard can it be to rebuid the player to be decent ?

Installed the new 000.173.045.000 firmware on my 55PFL7008K today, but this did not solve the issue i was hoping a newer firmware update would solve it, since the mediaplayer of my other TV (40PFL4528H) works fine... so Philips has a working media player... but unfortunalty not for my more expensive 7008K... i'm dissapointed!

Experiencing the same problem here. Come on Philips, how hard can it be to get this fixed? I have spent a fortune on the 55PFL8008 and I want to be able to select subtitles. Not working on USB nor from the NAS. Have you heard MKV is the standard nowadays??

    Hi,

40PFL8008S/12, no subtitles when using network streaming. When connecting the HDD to tv, subtitles appear ok.
Will there be a fix for this? On other brands I didn't see such a problem.
    FW: 000.173.046.000

btw, how can we expect something to work, when a version number starts with 000 ? that's not even Beta...

Soon I'll be asking for a refund...

    Hi all.

Subtitles need to be embedded for playback over network.*

For playback via USB the subtitles can be separate, but must have the same file name. Embedded subtitles should work as well.*

(*Depending on specifications, but on most sets from 2012 onwards).

If you are experiencing issues with MKV files containing embedded subtitles not playing over either network or USB (or both) on 6xx8 - 9xx8 sets, then this issue is currently being investigated.

Please update your TV to the latest software version 173.46.

Please provide the following information thereafter:

    - Full TV model
    - Serial number
    - Codec information of the MKV with embedded subtitles

You can extract the codec information using 3rd party software such as GSpot Codec Information Appliance.

You can also send this information to me in a private message if you prefer.

    Best regards,
    Ina

    Hi Cristian.

The software naming does not indicate a beta or even alpha version. It's just the way this software is named, nothing more.

Installed 000.173.046.000 today on my 55PFL7008K and still no subtitles with my .MKV movies over the network (NAS). On my 40PFL4528H it works fine. I tried several .MKV movies !!! So the problem is in the mediaplayer of the 55PFL7008K.

    Ina,

I made some pictures to clarify the problems with subtitles and audio tracks.

I used the same .MKV file on both TV's!!
    Picture 1 + 2 (in this post #15): 55PFL7008K.
    Picture 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 (in next post #16): 40PFL4528H.

As you can see, on my EXPENSIVE 55PFL7008K, nothing works!
And on my cheap 40PFL4528H everything works!
HOW ON EARTH IS THIS POSSIBLE, PHILIPS ?!?!?!

    PICTURE 1, 55PFL7008, no subtitles:
