    SA5MXX volume limiting

This was a most unwelcome discovery!
    Another EU dictat, I understand.
So you try to increase the volume level above level 8, and after the (seemingly) long message about high volume damaging hearing (thankyou, I didn't know that) you are asked "do you want to keep current volume level?". Well I DON'T because I want to increase it, so I answer NO. Wrong answer! You have to answer YES - which is completely illogical. That needs changing.
Trying to find the model number is also frustrating. It only appears on the box, not on the Startup Guide or on the product. If you chuck the box you are stuffed.
As an older engineer I found the guide very superficial and of little use. It seems to be a failing of Philips that guides and software are not user-friendly and often over-complex. I had to enlist the help of a young audiophile to understand Songbird.
Having said all that, when you do get it working it is a very impressive and useful device.

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your constructive input. Philips are constantly working on improving our products and the voice of our consumers is extremely important to us.

As for the volume level, Philips are obliged by law to meeting the minimum requirement for health and safety that the European directive 2003/10/EC provides for the noises exposed to individuals.

I hope you will find this information useful.

    Kind regards,
    Philips Moderation Team
