Skype outgoing audio - Clicking bakground sound

    Hi -

I have a 46PFL8008k/12 with FW:QF2EU-0.173.44.0. the TV is equipped with camera and microphones.
When using Skype, the video and the incoming sound (what I hear) work well. However there a strong clicking sound on the outgoing sound, my interlocutor would hear a load clicking noise on the top of my voice. Same observation when when I try to call the skype testing service.
I had the same issue with the previous FW.

This issue has been reported for the 7xx8 series.
    http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...outgoing+audio

And it has been suggested that it was a hardware fault.

How to verify if it is a hardware (microphones maybe) or software fault?
    How to fix it?

    Best regards

    Hi all,

The issue of the clilcking sound in Skype is still being investigated. The issue is not 100% reproducable, even on TVs with this reported issue.

Thank you for your patience while we are working out where the issue originates from.

    Best regards,

Any new solution to this? I feel like the second hand value on my 2 month old tv is destroyed by this. If the TV wasn`t sold out at the dealer I would have changed it by the 45 day return, but now I am stuck with a tv with a camera that has no value at all.

    Hi ryvaenge,

We are just about to come to a conclusion about the issue. I'm expecting to have an update this week or early next week. Can't promise this however.

    But we are close!

    Best regards,

    Hi all,

If you have not done so already, please contact your local customer service team as the TVs with Skype Clicking Sound require a service intervention to resolve this issue.

Thank you for your patience in this matter!

Just so people know....I found my 46PFL8008 does this too. I went to the shop, tried the one their and it was also the same and their display one is a LOT older than mine....mine was fresh stock that already had firmware on it dating back to February. We also know that the 7 series TVs are affected. I think Philips have been making TVs with defective microphone modules for months and months and nobody has noticed.

However, I would not rush to fix it. I had a long Skype video call with my parents and they told me that it was a non-issue and that if my voice volume was 10/10, the clicking was 2/10. Sometimes the clicking even went away. But if I try the test voice call on Skype, the clicking is much louder.

I think when you Skype to a PC it has some kind of background noise reduction in it and seems to filter most of it out. I asked several times if it was bothering my parents and they said it really wasn't a big issue for them whatsoever. I also tried some test voice calls to a landline and noticed when either party was talking the clicking stopped...it only seemed to happen while there was silence at both ends.

Very sloppy work by Philips....clearly they have a new mic module that supresses the interference from within the TV now....but make sure you try some "real" calls with "real" people before concluding that you need to justify repairing the set.

    Hi all

i also have the same probleme. TV is 55PFL 7108H/12. I made a test with skype and my parents said than there is a big cliking noise. I call philips france 2 times and 1 time by chat, we check software version and made tv reset.

Probleme was the same. I stop ambilight just to see, probleme was the same.

They give me return file number for dealer, and i get new tv.

Probleme was the same on new tv with hold software and with the new. i remove my multi plug with para lightning. was the same. i test with direct connexion to my internet box (i remove my HUB) was the same.

Then i bought this TV for my parents for ambilight and Skype, but it will be not possible to use skype like this.

The last firmware for me is 173 51 0.

do you have some new about philips??

It's a hardware fault. But it is not a fault with 1 or 2 TVs. From what I can tell, it is thousands of TVs. I know this because I tested a TV that was at least 8 months older than my own and it still did it. It happens on 7xx8 and 8xx8 TVs. It may be ALL of them manufactured have this fault.

The fix is you have to send the TV for repair so that they replace the microphone module with a newer version. This is NOT what you want to do with a brand new TV. But there is no point to replace your TV again with the dealer because they all do it!

TP-Vision/Philips CAN do something in software to make this less obvious though. I found that it is influenced by the AGC circuit (automatic gain control). When you first start a call in Skype, the AGC starts at maximum. If you talk loudly, or sit nearer the TV the AGC will reduce the microphone gain and the clicking will reduce. In fact if you blow into the microphone on the TV, you will find the clicking almost disappears for a minute or two. Although nothing except hardware can cure it, they could change the AGC start position to a medium level which would at least reduce the volume of the clicking.
