    spdif output, support 5.1?

I own this smart tv model 47PFL4007T, I don't have any home theatre system but own other spdif digital converters,
by definition I know that spdif can only supply audio 2.0, is this true? I have heard that this tv can play dolby digital 5.1.but even If a play for a usb drive any video with multichannel audio i got only always 2 audio channel .

    Hi,

SPDIF supports up to 5.1 (Dolby Digital, DTS Core) generally. Your TV can output Dolby Digital 5.1 via SPDIF, if a source with DD 5.1 is available (some TV broadcasts, movie from USB). Of cource, your Receiver need to support Dolby Digital 5.1 via SPDIF input.

I guess this is also true with optical out, right? If I buy a 5.1 speaker system hooked optically to my 55pfl8007k and I hame mkv files with 5.1 then I should hear that 5.1?

    Hi,

does not matter, if SPDIF is COAX or TOSLINK - both support 5.1 DD or DTS (however, 8007 does not support DTS).

ok, I know that 55pfl8007k does not support DTS, but, the actual question was if the optical out of Philips TV transmits the original DTS track from the mkv - USB HDD (sort of bypass) to a 5.1 speaker system that can understand DTS. In other words, the DTS sound will be played by the speakers( , so there is no need to convert the DTS to AC3.

    Hi,

no - your TV does not understand what DTS is, so it also cannot passthrough the DTS stream.
