Philips Immersive Sound HTS5560/98 - Drive not opening

The Blu-ray drive on my HTS5560/98 3D Blu-ray player is not opening. I can still use the device to play files if a USB drive is attached to the player.

Customer care advised to use some keys on the remote to check if the drive will eject. That did not work. Anyone has any ideas what is causing this?

    Thanks for your help

    Dear shibug2912,

thank you for the post. Can you please unplug the blue ray from the mains and the TV, and after few minutes connect it again?

In case this does not help, I highly recommend you to contact your local service centre and they will be able to check the device and assist you further.

    Kind regards,
    Philips Team

Thanks your response. I have done the test which you suggested and the result is the same. I contacted the local service center and they advised that it is a problem with the BD board (I am assuming BD stands for Blu Ray) and they gave me a quote which is expensive when compared with the original cost of the product. I have decided not to replace the board currently.

I have a follow up question which if someone can answer it would be great.

As I mentioned in my original post the USB port is working which means the unit can still playback sound (I have not tried playing the video from the USB drive. I will try playing the video when I get the Blu ray player back from the service center). Also I was able to browse through all the menus on the Blu ray player on the TV when it was connected earlier.

This is what I am planning to do. I will connect another Blu ray player (Philips of course) to my Philips TV (37PFL7666T/12) using HDMI. I then plan to connect the HDMI ARC port on the TV to the HDMI port on the Blu ray player which is supposedly having the problem with BD board. With this connection can the sound from the other Blu ray player connected to the TV be played back on the home theater?

Thanks for your response and help

    Dear shibug2912,

when you connect an external BDP to the TV it will work. The only thing which won't be working is the HD sound (Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio) since HDMI ARC doesn’t support HD audio.

    Kind regards,
    Sarka

    Dear Sarka,

Thanks for your response. Can you please let me know whether I will get HD sound if I connect the external BDP directly to the Home Theater either through a

    a) Digital coaxial cable or

    b) HDMI cable (assuming the external BDP has dual HDMI ports and home theater ARC port can receive the sound from second HDMI port of the external BDP. i.e One of the HDMI port in the external BDP will be connected to the TV and the next HDMI port in the external BDP will be connected to the home theater HDMI ARC port.

In both the above cases, the home theater will not be connected to the TV directly through HDMI ARC port.

    Thanks for your help

    Regards
    Shibu

    Dear shibug2912,

Unfortunately, since the HTS doesn’t have HDMI input there is no chance of having HD sound.

The correct setup is then: BDP HDMI to TV > TV to HTS via HDMI ARC

Digital coaxial doesn’t support HD sound either.

    Kind regards,
    Sarka
