    BDP9700: A/V out of sync since V4.19

Ola! Since upgrading to V4.19 (yes, I did a factory reset afterwards...) playing certain video's from file (meaning: not from disc) audio and video get out of sync after a while. Starting the video it 's fine, but the longer it plays, the further the video lags behind the audio, up to seconds really.

Specs of a movie where this happens: MP4 with video H264 @ 23.976023 fps and audio AAC stereo @ 128 kbps.

Anyone can confirm? It takes only a few minutes before it gets noticeable

    Hi Rin.

Could you please check if you can play other files then MP4 without the audio delay and
could you also re-create your file from its original source to see if that would help?

If that does not help can you extract the code info and inform us of what formats it contains, also how you have connected your Blu-Ray and with what.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    Been testing :D

    Hi Caroline,

Having the flue has its advantages; plenty of time for testing several files with different combinations of container (MP4 - MKV - AVI) frame-rates (23,976 - 24 - 25 - 30) and codecs (H264 - XVID) on three different devices (BDP9700 - Win8pc with VLC - Xtreamer media-player).

First: All files play perfectly on my Windows 8.1 pc with VLC ánd on my Xtreamer SideWinder media-player which is about 3 years old. The problem only occurs on the BDP9700, only after the V4.19 update, and only with the following video codec (according to VLC info):

    MP4 container w. H264 MPEG-4 AVC (part10)(avc1) @ 23.976 fps
(Is this enough codec info? How would I get more?)

After testing all these files I can actually predict which files will play correctly and which won't. Since the V4.19 upgrade I played 10+ files with this H264 @ 23,976 specs, and ALL of them have the lag.

What concerns me; This is THE most used codec at this moment , the majority of content available on the net is exactly this. Not to beat around the bush; I have no access to the originals, these files are downloaded, which is actually legal here, for now...

Some more techinfo as requested: The player is connected by HDMI to a Panasonic TX-P50GT30E plasma TV and through analogue audio connected to an NAD C372 stereo amplifier. Might be important: Audio through HDMI and audio through analogue are BOTH ahead of the video.

I hope this helps... Kind regards, enjoy!

Any news on this? Did Philips test this yet? It has been 3 months and no response... Come on Philips, this worked perfectly before the last update! And two other forum users have reported similar (same?) issues:

When streaming movies through my NAS, I have to pause the movie every 5 minutes to get it to resync.
The player will retire before the bugs are ironed out?

    8. Player reading external hdd file like picture or video slowly.....example reading MP4 video, i will heard the sound first, the video display delay 2-3 sec

And it appears my player crashes at least twice a month ?!?! Has done ever since I bought it, with pink or green screen with lines or solid colour. I did not notice any more because I use it much less because of the sync-problems, but my girlfriend told me, she is so used to this, pulls the plug and continues watching her DVD.

After such a long time this is sooooooo totally unacceptable, I have rigorously updated and factory-reset this machine but NOTHING gets it to behave properly and where some problems are solved, new faults are introduced . Philips will you pay me back? This machine has cost me soooooo much grief and work and time, and it is still malfunctioning.

My request is SERIOUS; please Philips, you have failed to fix the issues on this BDP9700 for too long, now refund me. I want this horror story to end. Please contact me personally.

Please Philips, acknowledge and fix this audio-sync problem. I reported it almost 4 months ago and recently two other forum users noticed it independently. The problem still exists in fw4.22

An example, for all to try:

    - Right-click following link and save file to disk:
    http://distribution.bbb3d.renderfarm...fps_normal.mp4
    - Copy the .mp4 file to USB storage and connect it to BDP9700 USB port
    - Play from the start; do NOT fast forward, do NOT pauze, because that will re-sync audio with video
    - Notice the effect clearly after 5:50, the boulder and the tree-trunk
    - Problem exists also in 23.97 fps movies, in case you wondered...

The longer a movie plays, the more out of sync audio and video become. Towards the end of this 10 minute cartoon it is already quite pronounced. With movies of like 90 minutes, towards the end audio and video will be out of sync several seconds. Pausing or fast-forwarding will re-sync audio and video, but having to do that every 5 minutes is not my idea of a fun evening watching a movie.

BTW: This Big Buck Bunny cartoon is also available in 3D Quad-HD @ 60fps, nice if you have the hardware to play such... :-)

Hi Philips, it has been more than 4 months since your last response to this topic. In the mean time other users have confirmed this audio-sync problem, and I have provided you with an example so you can see for yourself this problem really does exist.

Please, give me some form of answer. Can you confirm the problem? Are you working to fix this? Do you need more input? Something I should try?

    Any response at all ?!

Since my last post on this topic my BDP9700 was repaired by Philips; it had its main board replaced. It seems to crash less (great!!), but not sure though, because I don't use it all that much any-more since the AV-sync issues was not fixed by the main board exchange. I think this issue was not even checked by Philips, because there was no mention at all on the repair papers. :-/ When sending it in I even included a USB-stick with video files that exhibit the unwanted behaviour! It was simply ignored by the service centre...

Dear people @ Philips, please let me know if you are working on this issue. Please respond within a week, let me know whether you acknowledge the issue or not, and if you are working on a solution. If not, I will have to return the player because it has not yet been fixed/repaired to perform as advertised.
