40pfl3088h - Ratio format file from usb

    Hello,

When I play a file from a usb pendrive I can see it but I can not select a different zoom/ratio pressing "format" on the remote control.

I can do it with the standard tv trasmission but with these files from usb (with every format; mkv, avi, mp4, etc) I cannot.
(a 1920x800 file is displayed "wrong", pressed)

    May you help me?

    Hi gabriele91,

The available picture formats depend on the video source.
Via USB playback you do not have these options available. The files need to be in the TVs native format of 1920 x 1080p for the picture to not be distorted.

    This is within specification.

    That was obvious.
But I do not understand why, given that the requested function is extremely simple.

Older TVs have this simple shrewdness, a trifle as it is simply a software function that does not depend on the hardware.

From the bottom of my technical ignorance, I think it's easily solved with a software change, a small and simple software upgrade.

It could kindly tell me where I can find the words "the aspect ratio of the screen files played via usb is not editable" in the manual or on your website.

It is not an accusation, I just want to see where I have escaped this specification, because I think it's pretty important.

    Hi gabriele91,

You can find this in the user manual on page 12 under section "Change picture format":
    http://philips.to/1iAzbKk

"The available picture formats depend on the video source".

    Best regards,

    Hello INA
I'm facing the same issue on 47PFL3188H playing USB video movies
can you please kindly explain where on user manual, page 12 section "Change picture format" is specified that: USB VIDEO ASPECT RATIO is AUTOMATICALLY forced to 16:9 independently of the source aspect ratio?
This firmware behavior cause images be stretched to the full screen without any black band at the top/bottom, applying a wrong and annoying distortion.
There is a number of post in this forum describing the same issue affecting pre 2013 models, fixed by a new firmware version. It sound strange the fix has not been included in 2013 model firmware.
    Here an example http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...nd-2-40-videos
Firmware 2010 fixed in October 2010, with version 140.23

This is the extract from the linked user manual, page 12 section "Change picture format". Iím not able to find any USB VIDEO 16:9 forced aspect ratio reference

    Change picture format
You can change the picture format to suit
    the video source.
    1. Press FORMAT.
    2. Select a picture format, then press OK.
The available picture formats depend on the
    video source.
 [Auto]: Adjust the picture format
    according to the input source.
 [Super zoom]: Remove the black bars
on the sides of 4:3 broadcasts. Not
    recommended for HD or PC.
     [Movie expand 16:9]: Scale 4:3 format
to 16:9. Not recommended for HD or
    PC.
     [Wide screen]: Shows widescreen
    format content unstretched. Not
    recommended for HD or PC.
 [Unscaled]: Provide maximum detail for
PC. Only available when PC mode is
    selected in the Picture menu.
     [4:3]: Display the classic 4:3 format.

    regards
