    Tablet PI3900B2/85 "Internal SD Storage"?

    Hi all!

First of all, I don't know where's the right forum to post this question, so I just chose the more likely...

I bought a Philips PI3900B2/85 with 8GB internal storage about a month ago. I installed a few apps and suddenly I got a message that internal storage is full... So I went to "Settings>Storage", where I see two Internal Storage bars: the first one with 0.89GB Total space, and just 169MB available; the second Internal Storage Bar with 5.71GB Total space and 4.96GB available.

Then in "Storage>Apps" I see an "On SD Card" section with 5.0GB free, though I don't have an SD card mounted on my tablet, so I guess this is precisely the second Internal Storage... but I cannot move apps to this SD/Internal storage... well I can, but every time I try to do so, some MB/GB still remain "on the tablet" (first "Internal Storage"), and this is not possible for all apps.

    So the questions are...

Why is my internal storage divided this way? Is there a way to just put it together or something?
Am I limited forever to install just 0.89GB of apps?
How do I use the remaining 4.96GB in my second internal storage?

Hey Sarka! Sorry bout the late response, I've been kinda busy...

Nope, I'm still unable to use more than 0.89GB to install applications, which makes the device useless to me since the only thing I use my tablet for is installing apps, I don't have any music, photos or else.

As for the example... well, it is the same with every application in the Play Store: games, music apps, office apps, even now that these 0.89GB are full I can't install updates for Google Chrome because "I don't have enough storage"

I hope you can help me somehow.... thanks in advance!

    Dear Reisender,

I'm sorry for the late reply.

Regarding the ROM size, 5GB size is defined for the Storage partition which is for user’s media storage and app’s data storage.

There’s another ~1GB size for the /data partition which is used for download app and installation.
If the user used up the ~1GB /data, a memory would be full and can’t download and install further app.
Normally media files (music, video, etc) are much bigger in size than app. The app size is around 2MB~10MB (except those big games, ~20MB), so ~1GB (1000MB) can handle >100 apps and should be pretty good enough.

In case your memory is full due to the app installation, I'd suggest you to clean unused app up, like other mobile device.

    Kind regards,
    Sarka

    Hi Sarka!

Unfortunately, 0.89GB for download app and installation is not even close to pretty good enough . I have 60 apps and cannot install any further... but the thing is that from 60 apps, only about 10 of them are REAL apps, and the others are either widgets, android system apps, useless Google and Philips apps (Blogger, DockStudio, Orkut, SimplyShare, etc) or even duplicated apps that I can't uninstall because they're installed by default (why would I want to have both Android Browser and Chrome when I have so little storage for installing my apps? But I cannot uninstall neither of them). So this leaves me with enough storage for ~10 apps!

Isn't there a solution to put together all my storage and use it at my will? By the way, I really don't care much about storage for media files, the only thing I carry on my tablet are few doc/txt/ppt/small jpg files. I don't have any music, photos or other large media.

This is the first brand I know with this issue. Samsung, Dell, Huawei or even Apple let me use my entire storage as I wish.

    Dear Reisender,

Thank you for the information. I am really sorry to hear about the issue. As I was informed by our team, a 'Clean master' app might appear on the future tablet models to manage a media storage. However, for now there's no other solution for that apart from one I posted before.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

    Kind regards,
    Sarka
