    Unhappy Late Great Philips TV

I bought a model 40PFL4907 40" Smart Philips TV as a present to my family for Christmas in 2012.

For the past 15 Months the TV worked well and everyone enjoyed it.

Starting about two weeks ago the TV Reboots at random and at times will not stay switched on, this makes watching it virtually impossible.

When I went online to see if any information could be had I found that this was a fairly common problem. However when I reported the issue to Philips customer service I got a reply that my TV was out of warranty.

Admittedly it having been bought 15 months ago that is true, however this problem appears to be common among "Smart" TV's from Philips and others for that matter. Apparently the current firmware update is buggy and had I know this I would have disabled auto update. There should be a way to address this problem and restore a working firmware, but it appears to not be so.

So, I will not recommend Philips as a TV vendor to anyone now.

    Toengel,

TV is a Philips model 40PFL4907.

Numbers are scrambled in the original post, I will correct.

The TV is mounted on our den wall and the model # information is not accessible without dismounting it. ( The serial # is on my Target receipt - #DS1A1231102984. )

40PFL4907 is what all the documentation I have shows.

UPDATE : Model # is 40PFL4907/F7. There is a very small sticker on the left side of the TV which is still exposed when mounted to the wall.

    Hi Mark.

From the information you provided we have been unable to find a record of your contact with the customer service team.

According to your TV model number and warranty information you have provided, you are possibly a US resident? If yes, I would advise you to contact the support center on 866-309-5962, so they can attempt to troubleshoot the issue.

In any case they will be able to provide you with contact information for a Philips Authorized Servicer in your area that may be able to fix your issue.

    Best regards,
    Ina

    Ina,

This was my last communication from Philips support, it was received after I called in, established a case with the support desk and sent a scan of my proof of purchase from Target :

    Dear Mark,

We have received the proof of purchase for your 40PFL4907/F7. However, the unit that you purchased is out of warranty since it only comes with a 1 year warranty from the original date of lease. Since this was first leased on 12/07/2012, the warranty ended on 12/07/2013.

If you have any questions please contact our customer service center at 1-866-309-5962 with the following reference number: #INC1375595. Thank you for choosing Philips.

    Have a great day!

    The case # is 1375595.

I'm sure I can, for a fee, get the TV repaired by someone local to Orlando, Florida. But why should I pay for a repair to a 15 month old $500 TV that, from what I can tell, has been damaged by a software update?

By the way, why does Philips' response say my TV is leased? I bought the TV, it's mine and not leased. Wish it was, then I could maybe get the problem addressed.

I was contacted by Philips CS two days ago now.

Promised a replacement TV to be sent by FedEx. No further communications received since then.

    Hi Mark,

What kind of communication is it you feel you are missing? I believe the replacement process would have been communicated with you over the phone when you spoke to customer service. If you have any questions feel free to either give them a quick call or let me know and I'll see what I can find out.

In regards to the delivery of the TV, it will usually take 7-10 business days.

    Best regards,
    Ina

    Ina,

In my conversation with Philips CS I either missed or wasn't given a time frame for delivery of the replacement. Fedex implies a rapid delivery time frame, but 7 - 10 business days is much more believable / typical.

Thanks for clarifying this for me, I will report back once the TV is delivered and working.

    Thanks,

    Mark Gosdin
