    Thumbs up Technical feedback - FW v3.7.0.1 - for 32x8, 42x8, 44x8, 45x8, 49x8 and 50x8 - 2013

    Hi all.

    The new FW is now live. For details please see here:
    32x8: http://philips.to/1hI17PM
    42x8/44x8/45x8/49x8: http://philips.to/1im11Mu
    50x8: http://philips.to/1m7WrSV

    This thread is for technical feedback only. For other discussions please post in the related discussion thread. "Off topic" posts regarding the firmware will be moved to the experience thread.

    Important:
    After upgrading your TV, it is necessary to perform a "cold start". This means that, after the TV is running again (after the update), shut down the TV, wait 1 minute (till all components are shut down), and unplug the TV from the mains (pull power cord) for 2 minutes before starting again.

    Please use the following template in this thread:

    Very slow/buggy with the 500 DVB-C channels I have (the CH- and CH+ buttons are not working...)

    Negative:
    Native EPG is terrible (Not the internet one, but the channel one). cannot navigate the EPG until the text stops scrolling. Renders the epg useless as it takes minutes to navigate through the channel list.

    Takes forever before the TV is responsive after switching on. Cannot level the volume for at least half a minute

    TV is non responsive/black screen after pressing the tv button on the remote while watching youtube.

    Navigation icons smart tv is counter intuitive. scrolling to the right through the icons, at some point you reach the "end" of the screen and the next set of icons appear. On the new set of icons the "cursor" is immediately at the outer right icon instead on the first left one

    - DVB-S changing the channels is HORRIBLE, I have to wait 15 sek !!!
    - I can't remove single channel because PHILIPS programmers not remembered this function !
    - Sorting and editing 4000 channels (two satellites ) required a lot of time !

    TV Model: 46PFL4208T/12
    Previous Firmware: 3.5.0.1

    Positive:
    + fixed: Overscan on video files (usb, dlna)
    + fixed: empty EPG
    + partly fixed: broken DVB subtitles on DVB-C Finnish YLE HD channels YLE1 and YLE2 fixed, they are still broken on YLE teema and YLE fem
    + partly fixed: HbbTV on YLE HD channels is now available at YLE1 and YLE2, but not on YLE teema or YLE fem

    (are you manually fixing each channel?)

    Negative:
    - not fixed: After daylight saving time began, hbbtv clock has gone wrong. It shows 2 hours ahead of current time.
    Internal guide has correct time. Hbbtv clock cannot be fixed with manual or automatic clock setting, nor setting daylight saving or standard time setting. With daylight saving setting, hbbtv clock is 2 hours ahead, and with standard time setting it is one hour behind.
    Clock was correct when standard time was in use. (DVB-C)

    - not fixed: TV does not find DLNA shares immediately if wifi is used, have to wait 3-4 minutes! before DLNA share is found. It finds shares immediately if wired connnection is used. There are no problems playing media on wifi, but if you use any other source, and go back to network source, it says it cannot connect to DLNA source(s) and you have to wait 3-4 minutes again!
    Speed is shown as 130Mbps, full quality, WPA2+PSK

    - not fixed: Finnish MTV3 HbbTV news video stops shortly after starting it (wireless + wired)

    - not fixed: contrast, brightness, color temperature settings are not respected when using teletext, hbbtv, or internet browser. This is annoying when using in dark ambience and screen goes very bright

    - not fixed: while playing video from usb or dlna source, pressing 'format' button stops the playback and goes to live tv and shows the format menu there

    - new: HbbTV on YLE HD, the top-right miniview has scrambled picture, and if programme has subtitles, they are shown over the HbbTV

    Model TV: 42PFL5038
    Previous Firmware: 3.5.0.1
    Firmware 3.7.0.1

    Positive:
    - EPG (Guide) is back. Now at least I don't have to scroll up and down the channels to get some contents.

    Negative:
    - TV is still unresponsive after power-on (out of standby) for 30 - 60 secs
    - TV sometimes doesn't react to remote commands. Usually second or third attempt work. This is very annoying if you use e.g. a Harmony remote and want to change the channel to a favorite directly. It looks like channel changes via the iOS app mostly work and are more responsive. Maybe the Philips' (or TP Vision) software engineers have to go back to school. Lesson #1 when writing software for a TV is that the user interface should always respond within 150 ms... fix this !!!
    - Start up of SmartTV is very slow. You don't see any indication that something is starting up in the background, hitting SmartTV multiple times is usually a bad idea, because the same command is also used to quit SmartTV. I hate hour glasses on PCs, but perhaps it's a good idea to show something on the screen.

    TV Model: 22PFL4208K/12 Serial: FZ1A1324021395
    Previous Firmware: TPM1013E_003.005.000.001
    Positive:
    + acceptable speed for booting
    + fixed the zoom-scale/overscan image problem on video file via USB. Good.

    Negative:
    - Overall menu navigation and TV response speed is quite slow.

    - not fixed: during playback via USB the "FORMAT" button on the remote control is useless. When pressed the TV switch to the DVB source (interrupting the playback) and then appears the "FORMAT" window.
    To change FORMAT in playback mode is necessary bass by "OPTIONS" menu, after select "IMAGE & SOUND" and finally is possible select "IMAGE FORMAT".

    - not fixed: mkv file with aspect ratio thinner than 16/9 continue to be displayed vertically stretched to fill the screen (with .mp4 and .avi file this problems does not happen). UPDATE: I've tested a .mkv file with 1920 horizontal 864 vertical and is displayed correctly with black bars on top and bottom. The problem remains with .mkv files with horizontal resolution less than 1920 and aspect ratio thinner than 16/9.

    TV Model: 46PFL4208
    Previous Firmware: TPM1013E_003.005.000.001
    Current Firmware: TPM1013E_003.007.000.001

    Positive:

    Negative:
    - Overall operation & the menu of the the TV is very sluggish/slow and the TV is unresponsive to remote-commands too many times.
    - After switching on the TV is unresponsive to remote-comtrol commands for about a minute.
    - Randomly asking for pin code, not only when switching between channels (without any pin-code protection), but also during watching a channel for longer period of time (without touching the remote during that period).
    - EPG from the broadcaster lacks functionality, lacks a channel-preview and the EPG-layout looks really amateuristic, very unbecoming for a professional brand like Philips. EPG via internet looks graphically much better, yet it lacks functionality as well.
    - While watching movies on Any video-on-demand-Smart-TV app (netflix, and any other on demand video-service) it is not possible to adjust sound or picture.
    - Scrolling through the SmartTV-apps is unlogical, very slow and the menu of some SmartTV-apps interferes with the menu of the TV itsself.
    - switching between TV & SmartTV-apps and back to TV often causes lag or even causes the TV-menu to "hang". Only remedy is to switch the TV off, wait and switch on again.

    Conluding/Remark in general:
    I'm very pleased with the quality of the screen-display & amount of connections of this TV. Unfortunately the overall-TV-menu & Smart-TV-part lacks real functionality & smooth-operations compared to other brands (like Samsung-SmartTV's f.i.) and i really hope future updates will have a major overall improvement for Philips-TV-owners in store.

    First firmware that worked fine: not recorded
    Update to TPM1013E_003.005.000.001 - got issues
    Update to TPM1013E_003.007.000.001

    Positive (without ext HDD attached) TV moves a little bit faster than before!

    Negative:
    - If there is a USB memory device (HDD, memory stick, etc.) all TV functions are delayed, it's very laggy and there are some different side-effects like:
    - slow channel change;
    - slow reaction to any command;
    - after several commands like fast channel change the tv is stuck (is missing just the blue screen);
    - if you want to power off the TV, there is a big chance not to shut down completely;
    - even after unplug/plug it back, it is still stuck and needs a command like channel change to come back to life;
    - if programmed it to record a tv show, it starts, but it never ends the recording;
    - more, the only way to stop it is to unplug it from source and wait at least a minute, after that, the recording is visible on the HDD, but it can't be played.

    Hope to be able to use recording feature soon, otherwise I'll return this TV!

    Cheers!

    I solved the problem with slow of changing channels in DVB-S ! After I removed 4000 chanels and I added only 250 the switching channels is fast. Why I can remove single chanel from TV lists ? Is it possible in the future ?.

    TV Model: 39PFL4208T/12
    Previous Firmware: TPM1013E_003.005.000.001
    Netflix-version3.2.2-release-1539680

    Positive:
    +
    +
    +

    Negative:
    - Netflix and remote-buttons; If I press the Option menu on the remote while in Netflix, it's not possible to remove the menu again unless i press the Back button, which directs me back to viewing TV. That means that I have to go all the way back to booting up SmartTV and Netflix once again, to get back to where I was.
    If I by accident hit the List or Format button while in Netflix I'm also thrown back to TV. This is very annoying. At least there could be a "Would you like to quit Netflix?"-prompt.

    - High pitched sound when turning on TV, while a computer in powersave-mode is connected through HDMI; As I've pointed out numerous times, I get a really high pitched sound if i've for instance turned off my TV while the computer was shown through HDMI, and then later turn the TV on again, where the computer in the meantime has gone to powersave. It's only when the TV has been turned off while it's on HDMI, and therefore boots up in HDMI if turned on again. If the computer is connected and in sleep while the TV boots into TV-mode, there's no noise.

    - Screen format universal instead of input-depended; If I watch TV in one format/aspect ratio selected through the Format-menu, and then go to computer via HDMI, which is in 1080p, I have to change the format and visa versa. Could you please make the HDMI/TV/input remember it's own format setting?
