Exclamation 47PFL6008S ARC 5.1 Faulty Bad Software?

    Hello,

I have a sound issue with 5.1 surround.

I have a Humax HDR Fox T2 (PVR) connected on TV:HDMI-1 and a Panasonic BTT290EB Blu Ray surround sound 5.1 on TV:HDMI-2 to ARC Port on Panasonic

Watching programs via the Panasonic and Humax the sound is perfect and the issue does not occur.

Watching TV ( Source: Watch TV ) the sound starts off OK and surround sound works but after a while sound will go very quiet and/or sound will only come out of the rear left speaker or the front left speaker.

This problem also occurs when watching BlinkBox via the Smart TV option on the Philips TV.

Also watching an MP4 via the top USB hole produces the same problem, intriguingly when a sound issue occurs and the
MP4 is rewound the sound can play correctly.

My assumption is it is the fault poor/dodgy software decoding of the 5.1 surround on the TV.

I do not have another TV and so can not try the surround sound on another TV but I would have assumed that if that was the problem then watching the Humax/Panansonic would generate the same fault.

I have tried changing the cables, swopped HDMI 1 & 2 and have contacted Philips 'Customer Support' but I think I have more hope of winning the Lottery than getting any sense out of them.

    Current software is QF2EU-0.173.50.0

TV Speakers do work and this problem has not been noticed using the TV speakers (but then I do not listen with the TV speakers often but I have trialled it and seems OK).

    Sound
    Sound Style: Original
    Bass: +4
    Treble +4
    Surround Mode: Incredible Surround
    Auto Incredible Surround 3D: Off
    Advanced:
    Auto Volume Levelling: Off
    TV Speakers: Easyink AutoStart
    Clear Sound: On
    Audio Out Format: Mutlichannel
Audio Out Levelling: Less (Have tried More and Medium to no effect)
    HDMI ARC: On
Audio Out Delay: Off was On (still same problem)
Audio Out Offset: Disabled was 1 notch down (5ms?) then 0 but same problem.

Has anybody experienced the same and/or has a solution to enable watching the actual TV?

    Many thanks

    Chris

    Hi christwinn,

This is quite a curious issue you are having. I can't say from the information you are providing whether it is a 5.1 audio issue however.

    Let me recap:

    1. External devices via HDMI = no audio issue

    2. Internal media = audio issue

    3. USB playback = audio issue

    Please confirm the above.

If the above is true I need to know the following:

    1.
What is the audio out format on your Bluray player and Humax?

    2.
Does the audio issue happen on all TV channels, including SD channels?
Does the audio issue occur in other SmartTV apps, such as YouTube as well?

    3.
What is the audio codec used in the MP4 file?
Does it happen with any other file containers/codec?

If you change the Audio Out format of the TV to Stereo, does the issue still occur?

Have you tried to reset the TV to factory settings and to reinstall the TV?

The latest software for your TV is 173.51. Please try to update to this version as well.

    Best regards,
    Ina

    Well,

Wouldn't you just know it that the day I post Philips go and release a new update and so far it seems to have resolved the issue (Only tried it on !normal TV SD & HD and its holding up so far)!

So maybe my preious correspondance did reach somebody in the Ivory Tower, unfortunately they never let us mere mortals into the secret that they were working upon it.

    Best Regards,

    Chris.
