    Chromecast audio configuration

    Hello all,

I own a new Philips TV model 46PFL9707s and I love it, the optical out is connected to a Sonos playbar with 2 speakers.
I have an amazing image and an amazing sound.

Everything's fine on it, except the Chromecast dongle.

The only audio format I can get is "Digital stereo", this is quite boring when looking movies from Netflix or videos from Youtube.

I've read the the audio output format of the Chromecast is Dolby Digital Plus.

Do you know how to configure the TV to get a proper sound with the Chromecast ?

    Thanks.

    Hi Pol.

When you say that the only audio format you can get is Digital Stereo, where do you see this?

The TV treats the Chromecast dongle like any other HDMI device. It accepts the input "as is" and only is the media is supported by the TV. There is no option for setting the TV up to "get a proper sound" through HDMI.

Does the audio play fine via the TV internal speakers?

Please give a little more information about where exactly the issue occurs.

You can chose to changing the audio out format on the TV however. When you are on the Chromecast HDMI source, please check that the audio out format is set to Multichannel:

HOME > [Setup] > [TV settings] > [Sound] > [Audio Out format] > Multichannel

    Best regards,
    Ina

    Hi,

    some remarks:

    - if you press option key and show the status page of the HDMI input on the TV you see information regarding resolution and sound
=> there only DD Stereo is shown

    - if you connect a HDMI device, the connected device take a look at the EDID information of the HDMI input of your TV
=> your TV only states LPCM stereo or DD 5.1 AC3
=> no DD+ => Chromecast "downsample" to DD Stereo

When playing a Youtube video which is supposed to be DD5.1, when I press option key and show the status page, there is only DD stereo shown.

Could you explain how to get these informations please ?

Thanks for your replies, I'm still trying to find a solution.
In the meantime, I also posted a message on AVS Forum, you can check it out here and see if it helps, maybe we'll find a solution all together.

    Thanks !
