BDP5100/05: DVD playback error (rare)
Firmware: 1.53
Some of my DVD's reached me and I had the opportunity to play them for the first time in this player.
They work perfectly fine in older Philips DVD players.
This week-end, I tried to play home-made DVD's. The problem is the menu isn't loading properly which makes it impossible to see what is selected and move around.
workaround: press ok blindly to start playing something, hit the menu button to go back to the menu and it will work fine.
Then, yesterday, tried:
- Prince - Rave un2 the year 2000. The first time I put it in the player, I could watch the initial warning screen but the menu wouldn't showw up. I had to go to the home screen and restart playing the disc in order to reach the menu.
- Bruce springsteen - video anthology disc 2 (didn't try disc 1), the menu will show up. Impossible to see what is selected. Pressing ok will bring change screen or start playing. The workaround doesn't work.
Stopping the DVD from the menu (hitting the stop button on the remote control) will cause the player to freeze.
All tested DVD's are region 2.
I assume these DVD's have some sort of programming which annoys the BDP5100.
99% of the DVD's work perfectly well (Blu-ray's too). All the other discs I tested have no problem at all.
Issue might be related to the bad processing of videos described here: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...mware-1.53-bad.
