Exclamation BDP5100/05: DVD playback error (rare)

    Firmware: 1.53

Some of my DVD's reached me and I had the opportunity to play them for the first time in this player.
They work perfectly fine in older Philips DVD players.

This week-end, I tried to play home-made DVD's. The problem is the menu isn't loading properly which makes it impossible to see what is selected and move around.
workaround: press ok blindly to start playing something, hit the menu button to go back to the menu and it will work fine.

    Then, yesterday, tried:
    - Prince - Rave un2 the year 2000. The first time I put it in the player, I could watch the initial warning screen but the menu wouldn't showw up. I had to go to the home screen and restart playing the disc in order to reach the menu.
    - Bruce springsteen - video anthology disc 2 (didn't try disc 1), the menu will show up. Impossible to see what is selected. Pressing ok will bring change screen or start playing. The workaround doesn't work.
Stopping the DVD from the menu (hitting the stop button on the remote control) will cause the player to freeze.
All tested DVD's are region 2.

I assume these DVD's have some sort of programming which annoys the BDP5100.

99% of the DVD's work perfectly well (Blu-ray's too). All the other discs I tested have no problem at all.

Issue might be related to the bad processing of videos described here: http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...mware-1.53-bad.

So if you say: "99% of the DVD's work perfectly well (Blu-ray's too). All the other discs I tested have no problem at all", this means that 1% is not working...mmm thats not bad

Regarding the home made ones it could be related to the discs, burning speed, software used, settings etc.

For Prince did this only happen the first time or is it all the time you put it on and for Bruce what happened to disc 2?

Home-made DVDs work perfectly well on OLDER Philips DVD players.
The problem is the menu is not displayed properly which makes the disc hard to enjoy.
Sometimes, I can press "ok" blindly and it will the video.
    The video plays weell.
The problem is only with loading the menu.

Prince and Springsteen DVDs are factory pressed discs purchased in shops.
Tried the Prince DVD twice. The problem only happened the first time. the second try was at the next second. Maybe, the same meny was reloaded again right away which could cause it to work.
Haven't tried it again since then.

    Bruce Springsteen:
You can see the menu. Nothing is highlighted. If I try to move around, I cannot see what is happening because I cannot see the selection.
Again, it is a problem with the loading the menu.

When I manage to access the video, the video plays perfectly well.
Problem with menus only in ALL cases.
in other words: the menus are not interpreted correctly.

    Hi,

maybe you should post the DVD barcodes so Philips could check that in BDP development...

    hi bertrandh,

Agree with Toengle. it will be the best if you can give the EAN i.e. the bar code for the disc since they may not be ordering from amazon. and sometimes there will be more than 1 versions of a disc title...

For a strange reason, menu are now loading properly. Maybe because I played a video file just before trying to load them?

If so, might be something with buffering or something.
