Home videos in MP4 not playing thru USB stick

I have some mp4 home movies that I created myself in a USB stick. The folders show on my Philips Smart TV but the actual files won't play. It can't be because of DRM? Any ideas?

    Hi RachelS,

Could you please state your TV model number and current software version installed?

This will be helpful in advising you further.

    Best regards,

Sorry took so long! I have the 40 inch Smart TV 40PFL4909/F7. I have a USB 2 stick and downloaded mp4 movies to the stick but the TV does not play them. It sees them, but it will not play them. I thought it was a DRM thing at first, but it won't play the home movies either. I ended up having to use the feature where you can access your computer over wifi and get them that way. Any help you can provide I would be grateful. I'd just like to keep the USB plugged into the TV and access movies that way.

And when I set up my TV I downloaded the latest software version as well, so the TV is definitely updated.

    Hi RachelS,

You need to ensure that the files fulfill all the criteria for supported file formats.

In order for .mp4 files to play they need to have the H.264 or MPEG4 video codec.
The file video resolution must also be a maximum of 1920 x 1080.

You can find more information about the file supprot for your TV, in the user manual on page 14:

    Best regards,
    Ina
