    Android TV

    Hello
Will the software on the 8xx9 series be updated to Android TV when it is released in the fall?

    Best regards

    Good question.

If you are interested in having more details on this question, Google has just explained what is an Android TV : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3dCUPeyhag

According to Google, an Android TV hardware must have :
    - aggressive CPU&GPU performance specs
    - minimum of 1G RAM & 8G Flash
    - Wifi and/or Ethernet for connectivity
    - Bluetooth v4 w/BTLE
    - Widevine Level 1 & Playready DRM

8xx9 series only propose 2.7G Flash (and no possible upgrade), for the rest i cannot answer (except connectivity wich is OK).

    Regards.

Well 2,7 after android.. so it might be a 8 Gb of flash memory from the start and after android OS is installed it's only 2,7Gb left?
I haven't found the "full specs" of cpu type and so on yet..

Some more official details can be found here :
    http://developer.android.com/preview...art/index.html

unfortunately, no more hardware specifications than the one already posted here.
I don't know if it's 2.7G Flash left for apps or 2.7G total Flash in 8xx9 series...

    Hi all.

I think there may be some confusion regarding our Powered by Android TVs and Google TVs. These are not exactly the same thing, although closely related.

Our Powered by Android TVs have a complex platform integrated with Android 4.2.2, but are still also Philips TVs. Whereas Google's own Android TVs are Google TVs.

I hope this clarifies this somewhat.

    Best regards,
    Ina

I am aware that the "Powered by Android" and "Android TV" is two completly seperate systems. That is why i am asking if you are planing to updating/change the "Powered by Android" system to "Android TV" when it comes out?

    Best regards

It's not 2.7 GB for Apps anymore ... There is a recent modification in the spec (please look at the last leaflet of 48PFS8109_12 just modificated by Philips on July 1st).

    According to Philips it's now 1.6GB ...

This is a big "improvement" !
The question now is - Why ????

Hi, i don't think it clarifies. You are referring to google TV whether duck was referring to the new android TV operating system that google just announced.
We understand the current 8xx9 series are running 4.2.2, the idea is to know if it will be possible to make an OS upgrade to install this new android TV OS whenever it will become available.
    Cheers

    Tachchen,

from my experience: the 2K14 won't get the "Google Android TV" GUI...

But you never know... but don't expect it...

    So now there is:

Android TV - A new Android operating system aimed for TV's. Google announced this OS yesterday.

Philips Android TV - OS modified by Philips based on the mobile / tabled android version 4.2.2.

Google TV - Pretty much ditched SmartTV platform from 2010.

Based on my experience with Philips products: Be almost sure, that they won't change the OS anymore. Consider yourself to be lucky if they fix some of the severe issues and bugs the firmware most certainly will have.
