Angry Pen Drive/USB not playing or recording

I have the Philips CD Sound Machine AZ1856/98 since 9 years. Recently I have observed that the USB/Pendrive does not play or record. When taken to service centre, the pen drive plays but at home it does not. I formatted the pen drive and again tried, but it does not play or record. When trying to record it shows "Err" and when trying to play. it does not show songs or play - it hangs

    Dear Shreeram Bhat,

Thank for the posting here on the forum. Can you please let me know if it was same USB/Pendrive which was tested in the service centre? Would that be possible to contact them again as they can troubleshoot with you directly?

    Kind regards,
    Sarka

No it was my own pen drive. I will try to contact the service centre again but I do not think they will be able to help

I gave the player to the Philips Service Centre but they repeat the same thing. The pen drive of the service centre works but my Pen Drive (4 GB , version 2.0) does not work. But the same pen drive (mine) works on my other Sony USB/CD player. They are unable to explain. Is there any Pen Drive limitation (GB or any other which can be played on the Philips player)?
    Please answer

    Hello Shreeram,

Thank you for update. I'm sorry to hear that the problem still persists.

Please, find below information about supported USB mass storage devices:

    – USB flash memory (USB 2.0 or USB 1.1)
    – USB flash player (USB 2.0 or USB 1.1)

    • USB device which requires driver installation under Windows XP is not supported.

    Note:
In some USB flash players (or memory devices), the stored contents are recorded using copyright protection technology. Such protected contents will be unplayable on any other devices (such as AZ1856 device).

    Supported formats:
    – USB or memory file format FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 (sector size: 512 - 4096 bytes)
    – MP3 bit rate (data rate): 32-320 kbps and variable bit rate
    – WMA v9 or earlier
    – Directory nesting up to a maximum of 8 levels
    – Number of albums: maximum 500
    – Number of tracks: maximum 1000
    – ID3 tag v2.0 or later
    – File name in Uicode UTF8 (maximum length: 128 bytes

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Sarka

Thanks Sarka. I know the above details from the supplied manual. My USB pen drive is version 2.0 and formatted with FAT32. Its capacity is 4 GB. Is there a limitation on pen drive GB?. I have tried even with 2 songs in MP3 (128 kbps) buy does not load. Also when I try to rec on pen drive from FM tuner I get "Err" message.
The same pen drive works on another Sony player that I have
I am completely at a loss to understand the problem.
Should I get another new pen drive?

    Hello Shreeram,

I would recommend you to test it with a different USB first.

    Kind regards,
    Sarka
