    ***UPDATE***

ECD version 4.02 firmware out for BDP5500

    Dear Users,

We will have the ECD version 4.02 firmware live for BDP5500 in the next 1-2 days.

Once the SW is live and you are connected to the network, you will see a pop up window telling that a new SW is available.

Important: If you have a disc in the loader, first cancel this message, take out the disc and perform the network upgrade via the setup menu.

    Kind regards,
    Philips Moderation Team

Skype not working after firmware update

    Hi Rafal,

I also encountered a problem after updating the firmware of my BDP5500 to 4.02. My Skype fail to work after the firmware upgrade. After entering my name and password, I get the message that I "don't have an active internet connection" when my player is clearly connected to the Internet (YouTube is working). I have tried factory reset and updating the firmware again by usb but didn't work. Please help me get back my Skype. Thanks.

    Hi,

Microsoft changed the Backend for Skype and consequently the BDP Skype version won't work anymore.

    Thanks Toengel,

I hope Philips can do something about this on their next firmware update.

    Hi all,
I have a Philips TV 37PFL9606M/08 and a bluray BDP5500/12. I have a problem using DNLA with the bluray player. I have some movies on my Seagate Business Storage 2-Bay NAS, but I cannot find all movies stored in the NAS using the DNLA from bluray player.
Infact I cannot find some folders but also I cannot find some mkv files inside some folders.
I think could be some issue on the DLNA protocol, infact if I store the same files, that I'm not able to see with DLNA, on ubs stick and I connect this usb stick to the bluray. I'm able to find and reproduce the movie.
The firmware version of the Philips bluray is 4.03, and the Seagate Business Storage has the latest version of the firmware.

Hello, I have updated the firmware on bdp5500 and eventually the unit is unresponsive. It came up with a message hello (on the lcd) during the upgrade, after powering off and on the unit is dead. Is there a software that I could use to revert back to old firmware. Or any way recover the unit.

I saw some one posted similar issue but thread has been closed.

    Hello Blanjoo!

Thank you for your post and welcome to the Philips Forum!

In order to see if it will be able to say hello again I would suggest you sent it in for a repair, as it is unresponsive now only a repair technician can have a look and try to revive it. This could have happened if a disc was still inside, that is why the update comes with a warning that no discs should be left there, or if the power was cut during the upgrade.

As I donít know which country you live in please go to the following page, pick your country of residence and click on consumer and support and on the new page that will open you will find the methods available to contact your local support center to order a repair:
    http://www.philips.com/global/countr...Rlcg.html.html

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any other questions!

    Regards
    Philips - Katerina

I've been intrigued for years about why it's bad to leave a disc in the player during a firmware update.
Would it be possible for you to explain how this causes the player to be rendered unusable? Thanks in advance...

    Hello neilski!

The easiest explanation would be to draw the analogy to cleaning the washing machine. Nowadays washing machines have a self-cleaning program where you have to make sure it is empty and the machine takes care of everything itself it can’t wash items while cleaning everything inside of it. That is somewhat what the player does while updating, nothing has to be inside it because it can’t start reading discs while doing its Transformers tricks in there.

    Kind regards,
    Philips - Katerina

Hi Katerina, and thanks for the reply.

    Fun analogy
My concern though is that the player's software is fully capable of testing for the presence of a disk - if it finds one, it's surely reasonable to expect that it should not proceed with the update, no?

My washing machine doesn't have a self-cleaning program (nice concept tho!), but if it did, and I made the mistake of using it while the machine had clothes in it, I'd expect it to not do a very good job; it might damage the clothes or just not clean itself properly. What I wouldn't expect it to do would be to destroy itself... (And maybe washing machines with clever self-cleaning systems are capable of detecting clothes! )

One of many reasons why I'm bemused about the update-with-disk-kills-player issue: a child may reasonably be left alone in charge of a player... if they see an offer of a firmware update and press random buttons (or just "OK"), the player can die. This is really a very foreseeable event. It shouldn't kill a player, in my view...

    Hello nielski!

As a matter of fact my washing machine says in bold letters in the manual not to have anything in there while doing the self-wash cycle and even so much as a sock should not be in there, so I guess that my washing machine follows the same logic as Philips players when being updated. And it is not Philips : p
I tried getting a technical explanation to your question as you are interested in the details but could not receive one so I think we will have to stick to no discs in players and no socks in washing machines, if that is ok with you. If I ever get an answer to this then I will gladly share it!

    Best regards,
    Philips – Katerina

No worries, thanks anyway for trying Katerina.
Fingers crossed you get an answer in the end.

(In the meantime though, I'll just assume that the techy guys are all too embarrassed to discuss it! )
