Lightbulb MKV subtitles not working - workaround (USB)

Since I bought the TV I've had problems with subtitles not showing. I found a workaround and decided to share it in here so others can use it until it's fixed.

Let's assume we have two files on USB hard drive:
    movie.mkv
    movie.srt

After starting the movie, if the subtitles are not showing, check in options what Character set do You have. For me, when the movie is launched with 'Central Europe' character set, the subtitles won't show up. I have to switch them to 'Western Europe', and then they show up. You can then change back to 'Central Europe' if You need to, they should still be there. If that doesn't help, after switching to 'Central Europe', try switching the subtitles off and on. It helped me on one occasion.

That's it, I hope it helps someone.

    Cheers!
    Pablo

    PS: My TV is 47PFS7109/12

TV has factory firmware: QN141E_012.002.028.128. Files are saved in 'Central Europe' character set.

    Hi,

then first thing you should do is to upgrade to the latest FW.
go to www.philips.com/support and download/install the latest version, check the behavior again after that.

    Regards
    Thomas

Unfortunately, I just did that. And not only it didn't fix that bug, it also messed up video scaling when playing mkv's. I have to admit after using the TV for a short while, the software is really lame and it is pulling the TV's rating very low. Too often I have seen very good hardware with software that is 5 years behind.

From my point of view, upgrading the firmware broke my TV. Is there a way to downgrade firmware?
