Missing 21:9 display option
I have my BDP8000 blu ray player connected to a Philips 58PFL9955 cinema display (21:9 ratio). According to the manual of the BDP8000 I should be able to set the display setting to '21:9 Cinema'. This option isn't available however when I open the Video setup and click 'TV display'. Only 4:3 and 16:9 are available (4 options total).
Any thoughts why the option is missing from the menu?
I'm on firmware version 1.53.

Hi,
on BDP9600 it was the same as you described above. In the latest manual on the support webpage this entry was removed. The BDP and the BD have always 1920x1080 and your TV will do the zooming to 21:9. If you have a 21:9 movie, just select auto zoom in your TV or the Cinema mode.
I suggest to set up the BDP to the "16:9" setting. With this setting you could also see 4:3 broadcasts in correct apect ratio.

Yes, but the BDP8000 user manual does have the option described as [Cinema 21:9] while the player's setup does not.on BDP9600 it was the same as you described above. In the latest manual on the support webpage this entry was removed. The BDP and the BD have always 1920x1080 and your TV will do the zooming to 21:9. If you have a 21:9 movie, just select auto zoom in your TV or the Cinema mode.
I hope that you will agree that the above TV settings are not that obvious even for experimented users. I for one who would categorize the 21:9 setting as a TV screen adjustment in the player for 21:9 screens.
On the other hand, what both players have is optimum subtitle adjustment, which is imperative for 4:3 letterbox DVDs and for 21:9 screens as I gather from comments posted by 21:9 users.
This is surely one of those occasions when the Philips support would be compelled to fill the user's lack of information where is one is clearly needed!

Hi,
I have this device and indeed it is not there but either it is written in the DFU....The leaflet says it has it but for me this is wrong...
No Aspect ratio 21:9 on the 2010 version and I do not think either on the 2011 one.......
