Thank a lot for sharing this guide. This guide really helped to get rid of android issues. Now I am able to Chromecast Showbox app with my android TV. This will help me watch HD movies and TV shows.

i got a 49PUS7909 and the built in chrome app shows 960 x 540 resolution while android is running in native 1080P

But when i change the DPI to 280 then the built in chrome shows 720P .....

I dont know but i think PHILIPS should rewrite their firmware and apps so they scale with native android resolution. A real android dev could do this easily but i really wonder why philips can't seem to sort their shit

Why this TV have only 720p resolution in andoid apps?
Its not possible to display for example youtube or vimeo movies in 1080p (I think that on 4k models all is also downscaled to 720p). How to prove that? Simple steps to doo:
    1. Install Developer Tools from Google Play (link:

    2. In Developer Tools choose Show more apps in Google Play. App will "install" touch drivers to emulate other device and reboot TV.
now you have access to new software in Google Play
    3. Install QuickShortcutMaker from Google Play (link:
    4. In QuickShortcutMaker choose Settings - Security and choose Unknown devices
now you can install any app from HDD - don't use stick/drive thats extend TV for recordings or similar (installation will end wit notification that apk is corrupted)
    5. download and install Antutu Benchmark (apk you can istall wit help EVIZO: )
    6. now just run Antutu and check display resolution showed under graphics tests
    as you see its 720p - 1280x720x
    - you can also install MXPlayer and play 720p movie with option to not upscale source video. Confirmation from Born2Hell XDA user looks like that:
    Attachment 2887
    - BTW Antutu shows about 22000 points in test
    7. Now wee need to change resolution to 1080p. Its not so easy to find solution but one that I know is available.
Install Display Manager from Google Play (link:
Yes, its paid app but I know only this that can change resolution without rooting device.
    8. In DisplayManager change resolution to 1080p so should be for 1080p TV
    Screen Height: 1080
    Screen Width: 1920
for 4k you must use 2160 and 3840
    9. After applying this setting run once again Antutu.
Now you will see 1080p resolution under graphics tests. Score in this resolution is lower and about 19900 points.

If you run videos in FullHd there is no lags that can explain upscaling that is made by Philips. Even menu without upscaling looks much more better. Of course after setting 1080p resolution there are bunch of glitches in standard apps (example: Skype on half screen size) and TV many times resize screen, but this just shows how they made this firmware.

    Now question to support:
    - will you release firmware that plays videos in android apps in 1080p - native TV resolution?

I must know this answer soon to turn back TV to seller. Im not buying FullHD TV to watch movies from smart applications that are only upscaled.
Will this work in kodi? I have found this site which is working for APK's

it seems you can download apk files online from other resource too. No need to download some apps from play store. might be play store has banned any app you want to download.

    Hi Philips Devs,

How can we have Full HD Android on Full HD TV's?

I am tired of having 720p videos and youtube and apps on a Full HD TV, that is marketed as a Full HD TV.

Whenever I try to run a Full HD 1080p Movie, the player downgrades it to 720p because every Android App is running in 720p !!!!!!!

I was lied that this is Full HD TV !!! It is Full HD only for external sources like HDMI, but not for anything related to the smart features.

For example on any LG and Samsung, when I play any 1080p Video with integrated player the video displayed is 1080p. Not downgraded to 720p.

What can we do to change the resolution of the Android running on a PFH5500/88?

    Thank you,
    Vlad
