No audio for .mov file (BDP5200 /V1.16)

I am pleased that the BDP5200 does play the video part of my .mov files (recorded by a Canon Ixus 100).

Unfortunately audio does not work: there is a message that the audio format is not supported. So there is no sound during the video playback.

GSpot says the audio codec is "sowt: 16-bit signed little-endian / 44100Hz", which to my understanding is ordinary PCM . Guess each player of the world knows to decode that PCM.

If it is helpful I have uploaded a short .mov file here: BDP5200v116NoAudio.mov

Does anayone have a clue what to do about that problem ? Preferably I would like to avoid re-encoding my .mov files. Oh besides, DLNA with Windows Media Player 12 results in the same problem.

Thanks, but that table is not helpful: it does not list .mov, which is supported by my bdp5200; and it does list the PCM audio codec, which is not working with my .mov files.

For me it seems that table is out-dated.

Well, as I already mentioned: PCM is on the table. Of course, because PCM is just the plain audio format without any compression. All players support PCM, specifically at the standard 16 bit/44.1 kHz rate.

So for me it seems it is a matter of the file extension, not a matter of the codec. Which is very strange. Maybe this is a 'missing feature' in V1.16 for .mov files ?

So, here are the results:

1. Renaming to AVI: still recognized as MOV, with the same behaviour ("audio format not supported")

2. Converting the container with the program "Pazera MOV to AVI Converter", keeping video format and audio format: BDP5200 hangs (furtunately the standby key still works with some seconds delay)

3. Re-encoding with the program "Pazera MOV to AVI Converter", using H.264 video format and keeping the audio format: video and sound are played correctly.
