OK, lets wait a couple of weeks and install the new software that boosts the NetTV / IP-EPG speed. Any workarounds are still welcome in the mean time.
Kind regards,
Niels

Hi,
it seems that Philips found the solution. A reader of my blog got his TV back from repair with a new firmware (Q5551-0.140.40.117) and Net TV is working again...

Asking me, the rootcause is a hardware problem what they're trying to solve with new software.
I was in contact with Philips on this with 2 different people, both needed my MAC-adres 'make sure' this concerns the known problem.
Then the first one told me a mechanic would come over, the second one said I had to wait for new software.
I hope a good and quick software solution will come, NetTV was THE reason to choose for this TV.
At this time I can reach NetTV after a few attemps, so I'm not too unhappy.

Thanks for your reply Mark.
It is a pity that the Philips moderators have not given any explicit details about this NetTV problem on this forum. Everyone had to call by themselves to ask for more information.
@ Philips staff: why did you not inform us actively on this forum?Last edited by StefanTV; 08-20-2011 at 11:34 PM.

Fix for the whole range of NETtv products
I guess there will be a fix for every Philips product offering NETtv.
(so including my BDP5180 blu-ray player aka dmla mediastreamer)

Hi,
I don't think so - up to today I never heard of that problem with a BDP...

It is wrong to conclude that it is a server problem, just because you can start NetTV sometimes.
If it is a server issue, I'm wondering why the problem could be solved on my side just with replacing the mainboard. I don't think web services work that way.
The root might be a depending on a certain combination of hardware/software. It might be solved by replacing mainboard, but might also be fixed by software. You can even fix some hardware bugs by software by avoided particular combinations of instructions/memory accesses. In this case the hardware still might have problems, but you will never see them.
I doubt, that the NetTV server software has a dependency on hardware in the TV itself. There is really much abstraction in between.

The problem is (as far as I know) software related. It worked fine in the release software (140.25) and also in version 140.032
After that the problem started and now it might be fixed in the next firmware release. The explanation for the fix with the new motherboard is that these are delivered with the original release software. Once updated they have the same problem again.

I don't think it is software related because I never updated the firmware. NetTV was working fine untill somewhere in July when it started to be very slow. I contacted Philips support and they recommended to update the firmware but there was no difference. It is still very slow or cannot contact the server.
Now they are going to change the main board. Lets hope this will solve the problem.

It might be a combination of server capacity and software but I doubt it's hardware related. Let' see what the fix brings when we are able to download it.

No, you are wrong. The fix with the mainboard works on my side with just exchanging the mainboard, same software. The new mainboard was not delivered with older firmware.
In my case the TV had the firmware 0.140.39.0 when the mainboard was exchanged. After exchanging the mainboard it had 0.140.39.0 which is the newest one for 42PFL7695K/02. Please check the link: http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/d...&scy=de&slg=en
So I can't update to the newest firmware, because it is already installed.
Please note: 42PFL7695K/02 with firmware 0.140.39.0 has no issue with NetTV performance on my side.
Not sure why you assume so many things you do not know before posting. If you have read more posts from my side, you would not have posted this.
As written in previous post, this root seems to be a particular combination of hardware/software.Last edited by smart; 08-22-2011 at 04:51 PM.
