9705: What are the various local dimming settings doing?
Dear Philips,
Can you make any comment on what the 3 local dimming types do?
When we are supposed to use each one? What are the differences?
In the "Dynamic backlight" setting, there are 3 options:
Standard, Best power, Best picture.
But what is difference among these?
Trying to understand the differences by observing them is very difficult, and each one needs also different settings.
Are any guidelines available?

Hi
Best power > Backlight is dimmed, changes in brightness are done only in a few Sections, to reduce the Power consuptions
Best picture > Backlight is not dimmed, changes in brightness will be done on all Sections from 0% to 100%
Standard > mix between power and picture

What are "sections"? The local dimming zones, i.e. the groups of LEDs?
What I have observed is that the standard setting will be less aggressive in making the picture totally black when there is a dark picture on screen, and that the gamma changes are less dramatic than with best picture.
I have done some measurements with standard, which showed a more "smooth" gamma:

Which is quite different than what I have measured on "Best picture":

(from here: http://www.avclub.gr/forum/showthrea...post1056166255)
The gamma is smoother, but the most important feature is that you can see dark screens, without the screen going completely black.
But my question is: what I am loosing from moving from "Best picture" to "Standard"?
Will "Best power" have a better gamma? What are the properties of "Best picture" that led to the characterization as "best"?
