    Angry Youtube does not work

Bad news... Certain older YouTube apps will no longer be supported after April 2015
    See official news here

A very bad news for "old" SmartTV (after 2012).
Did Philips plan to upgrade these "old" TV to allow them to use again YouTube ? This apps is one of my favorite.

    Thanks,

    HI there,

    yes this news is true.
YOutube decided not to support its API v2 anymore. As all of our 2009 and 2010 TV's do work with API v2, those Devices will no longer have Youtube on it.

All our internal tests have shown that API v3 would not work smoothly on that Devices so we had to decide not to support Youtube on those Devices anymore.

For Youtube, just look out for external Devices bringing Youtube to the Big Screen, like Google Chromecast, or amazon Fire TV or any Android HDMI Stick.

    Best Regards
    Thomas

    That is sad news.

Since Google mentions 2012 (which is not Philips specific) and you write that Philips 2009 and 2010 models are affected, I would like to you to confirm that PFLXXX6/PFLXXX7 models with YouTube will still be able to access YouTube via the SmartTV App.

Thanks for answer... but it's a bad news...i need to use an external device to watch Youtube...Why did i buy a SmartTV if i need to do that ?
Please write a smart app for older devices.. I prefer to see video in 480p than nothing...

    Hi,

Google states that they don't support API v2 anymore. They don't say that it won't work. Removing the YouTube App is a Philips decision. Philips removed nearly all usable apps within a matter of a few years. They should either stop selling this functionality or at least make it open source.

    Hi J-TV,

not wrong but also not right.
Youtube/Google has decided to not support APIv2 anymore.
As Youtube/Google does Provide the Apps in SmartTV, in fact they have cancled the "old" App.

I am the owner of a 2014 79PUS7909 and this television and my TV is also affected by this decision NetTV is over!

From today, the alternative for me is the YouTube addon for SPMC (XBMC Client) for Philips Android TV.

    Hi,

as the 7909 is an Android Device you can just upgrade the Youtube App via the Playstore.
But yes, using different Apps is of course possible via the Android System.

    Regards
    Thomas

Hi Thomas, i am afraid it is not working for the TV sets of last year. The Play Store shows is a version for Google TV, this is maybe working on the new coming devices but not working for me.

    Hi Lampie,

the 7909 is a TV powered by Google Running an Android 4.x.
You can just go to the Play Store and update/use the latest Youtube app which is provided in the Store.
There is no problem or doubt about this.

    Thomas

Hi Thomas, thanks for your reply but i think this is rather not possible. See this screenshot from Google Playstore (in dutch). It shows the Philips TV is not compatible. Click image for larger version.

I am curious about the experiences of other people installing YouTube on a 2014 Philips Android TV

    Kind regards,

    Hi Thomas,

Philips points at Google, Google points at Philips. But Philips is forgetting 1 thing: we have bought a PHILIPS tv!

If Philips can't guarantee parts of their products to function for a expected time, then stop selling these parts. What's next, are Philips tvs going to stop turning on, because their resistant supplier stopped delivering switches that function longer then 1 year?

Philips has my money, but they have betrayed me with their promises of functionalities the tv would have.

    have a Philips-free life,
    J-TV
