4:3 on 42pfl8404H/12
Hi,
how can I manage to make an old 4:3 source appear with black boxes on the
left and right side on the 16:9 screen in unscaled format with kept aspect ratio?
I use a DVD/HD-recorder via HDMI on the 42pfl8404H/12.
When I select "unscaled format" on the Philips (or how is this format option called...)
the picture is still not presented with black boxes left and right but projected to
the whole 16:9 screen.
Regards
Ralf

First you should switch "Picture Format" to "AutoFormat" and the Option "automatic fomat modus" (Automatischer Format-Modus) to "Autoformat" to keep aspect ratio (Default is filling visible area!, in German: "Sichtbaren Bereich maximal vergrößern" - this is unwanted...). So it should leave 4:3 source with black boxes left and right. But the Picture Format "Autoformat" looks for dark areas in the picture and may zoom in an unwanted way whe there is only a part of a Logo in this dark area...
For external sources there is an other way available: switch "PC-Modus" on for the selected external source (when viewing TV from internal tuner this option is greyed). Then you can manually select "Picture Format" "4:3" (alternatively "don't scale" but with lower resolution sources you may get a very little picture on your large screen).Last edited by ahasver; 08-22-2011 at 11:52 PM.

Hi ahasver,
thanks a lot!
PC-modus is the thing I didn't know and haven't tried before but this is what I was looking for to have more possibilities to select the zoom factor and aspect ratio.
Is there anything else than these formats which is different in PC-Modus?
Regards,
Ralf
