Portable hard disk and supported file formats

Hello everybody,

I`ve just bought Philips 40PFL5606H/58 and I`m very satisfied with it. But I have few questions and I hope somebody will be able to help me.

So question one is about USB link. From a USB key everything works fine, but when I put portable hard disk 320 GB in it, the TV don`t recognize it. So is there something wrong or I need to install some software or even it is not supported at all by my TV?

And the other question about watching videos from USB. I`ll write you the codec details from VLC media player and explain the situation. I tried to play mkv files. At first I tried to play:

This video played perfectly. Then I tried:

Sample rate: 44100 Hz

codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
Language: und
Resolution: 1280x720
Frame rate: 25.

The TV was thinking long and then the sound started to play, but video was not supported. But as I see the video codec is just the same and I don`t understand why this is happening?

Hi

The TV does support USB HDDs but it is up to the HDD if it will work.
Make Sure, the HDD is getting enough Power. Use an external Power Supply.
Supported Disk Formats are: NTFS and FAT
In This Thread you will find all Informations about what Codecs and which Settings are supported.

Thanks for an answer But what should be the external Power Supply? Using it on PC, the USB HDD gets the power from PC per USB and everything works fine, so why do I need the external power supply and where I could get it?

And about the file types... You gave me the link, I`ve downloaded the file, but I haven`t found my TV on it. My model is from 5000 series 40PFL5606H/58. The column I`ve found was:

TV 2009 models
5000 and 7000 series
xxPFL5xx4, xxPFL7xx4

But my number should be: xxPFL5xx6

So where is the truth?

in this Case it is:
H264/MPEG-4 (AVC),
MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4

External Hard Disks need Power. On a PC they get the Power via USB.
This is the same for the TV BUT! most Hard Disk, specially those with more Disk Space, do need more Power. On a PC they get this more Power but not on the TV. So, get in Contact with the Hard Disk Vendor and check if there is a Power Supply to be sure the Hard Disk gets the Power which is needed.
