USB Recording for 7605 TV?
Hi,
I saw that the new Philips 7606 TVs of 2011 now have a USB recording facilitiy, i.e. they can record on an attached USB device.
Can I expect that also the 2010 series 7605 TVs will get this feature via a firmware update?
I have a 37PFL7605H/12 and would be glad to also receive this feature.
Does anybody have information on this?
Regards

Hi,
this is a 2011 only feature and you won't get this via firmware update for your TV...

Just for more confusion:
http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...?2340-Smart-TV
SmartTV was announced for all connected TVs. There is recording in the links of the thread mentioned as a feature of SmartTV.
Nevertheless, I do not believe that recording will be added to older TVs. Many other members in the forum think the same, also they would like to get that new feature.
But there is no clear statement, that recording is exempted from the SmartTV update.

Hi,
Smart TV = Control, Program, Simply Share and Net TV... but not all TV series will have all parts of the four pillars...

Hi
to bring some clarifications:
Smart TV is not a single feature but a combination of different things.
One of them is USB Recording but there is also Net TV itself, new Net TV Interface etc.
I think all of you are aware that with an update we will not be able to change the hardware in the devices.
So if there is f.e. an older TV or Blu-ray Player which is by hardware not able to record, it will not be after the Smart TV update.
Regards

Hi,
so what does bring the new "Smart TV Update"? A new HOME menu? or a new Net TV portal?

Hi,
Smart TV brings a lot of things and like i wrote and as you already mentioned yourself, different things to different devices.
What exactly will come and how it will look like on the different devices will be shown, when its available
.
So lets be patient and wait for the things to come.

Just a small suggestion...
Don't show features on devices that, in fact, will never have them:

Notice the pausing and recording on a 9705!?...

and next time they do a PROMOTION! Video they should use a 42" 3xxx Series?
and than your question would be why there are all the features in the low end devices but not on high end?
This is marketing, for sure they introduce best features on best devices even if they are not available on that specific model....

Thomas, I absolutely agree with you. No one will expect that hardware will be changed or Philips will be able to do magic. But not everybody is able to decide if a feature depends on certain hardware capabilities or not.
If a feature requires hardware changes will be absolutely self-evident for you. I have seen posts here, where it was absolutely self-evident for me, that sth. will require hardware changes.
But basically I just want to point out, that without enough technical knowledge of the insides of modern TVs, a user may misunderstand the message which was sent out.
This newly started thread, asking for recording, shows that there are users which wish to have that feature. Some might think that SmartTV will bring that feature to them, because they read this thread. Then they get it and are very disappointed about this "missing" feature.
Hope that the post is not too long to be read
