From a user's perspective, the 7605 has a USB device, so the hardware for attaching a harddisk is there.
A receiver component is within the TV, otherwise you could not watch TV.
So (to me as an IT professional) it seems an easy thing, only to be done in software (firmware), to save the TV signal on the harddisk, and that's called recording ;-)
And the EPG is also already built in.
I.e. no hardware change required to implement that.
That's why I think that USB recording could easily be provided in a firmware update, if Philips only wanted - but I doubt that they want...

Dear gr7605,
this is the point, they don't want at all. The same unsatisfied issue is with the wireless keyboard for NET TV (available only for the 2011 models).
USB driver would be enough to recognize it but....for "misterious" reasons, this is not possible.
What do you think????.....
......you're right!
