1080i res update for pfl7606 series?
hey, after being introduced to passive 3d I knew I had to have one... sow my eyes fell on a LG lw650 , but after reading about lag during gaming, I had to look elsewhere..
then I found the new Philips pfl7606 which sounds awesome....
but what I want to know is Philips working on a update sow the vertical resolution per eye will be 1080 instead of 540, like LG recently unleashed..
thanks in advance

Hi,
I think this is hardware related and cannot be changed via firmware update...
But as far as I know, many people didn't recognized the lower vertical resolution. You should test this by yourself in a shop...

but LG did update it through firmware...
yeah some people say they don't and some do, but all tests and reviews rub it in when comparing passive with active
yeah I'm going to a friend who has the tv to game and watch a movie so I can try out and see how it looks.
don't want any lag while gaming !

There is absolutely no TV that has passive glasses and 1080 lines of vertical resolution. The LG TVs that have passive glasses also do not have 1080 lines of vertical resolution for each eye.
There is a "certificate" from a German "certification" company floating around, that "validates" that the LG passive TVs have 1080 lines of vertical resolution.
BUT if you look the "certificate", it states "both eyes combined"!!
Of course, if each eye sees 540 lines, both of them see 1080 lines. But then on active glasses TVs, both eyes combined see 2160 lines of resolution.
Don't believe marketing and no serious "certification" companies.

I am not sure if you understand how the passive 3D technology works.
A passive 3D has a special polariser filter on screen, one with direction X for odd lines and one of direction Y for even lines. These polarities match the polarities of the passive glasses, so form each glass "lens" you can see only the (540) screen lines that match the polarity of the "lens".
This is hardware, and cannot change.
Doubling the frequency, does not affect resolution. Resolution and frequency cannot be added.
If they did, please don't ask Philips to improve 3D, but ask to double the frequency in 2D, so as to make my 9705 (and all Philips TVs) a 4K TV...
[Be very skeptic when you read material from the marketing departments of companies. They will try to even convince you that we are near to glass-less 3D TVs that "work"...]Last edited by petasis; 09-18-2011 at 12:57 PM.

I have here a 42PFL7606. I can test 3D with the Astra 3D demo channel and some X-Box 3D games.
3D is almost perfect for me on this TV, I see absolutly no resolution problems.
Philips should spend work on much other things (EPG, User Interface, 3D on USB), but this part of the TV is perfect for me.

@petasis, if that's the case it really sucks that a lot of techsites are writing about it...
techsites that have nothing to do with philips, but I get what you're saying.
@sati thanx mate and how is the inputlag? while playing shooters?
I first was focused on the passive lg until I read a lot about lag problems....
then I started looking further and I came across the Philips pfl7606 .. love the design and ambilight.. so I willll probably go with this one if there are no lag issues
