Fidelio DS8550 seems to turn itself on

I've had a DS8550 for 3 weeks used with my iPad2 and recently it has randomly just started playing music even though the iPad and unit are turned off.

I've checked that the alarm isn't set and have reinstalled Fidelio app but nothing has fixed it. The iPad will suddenly start with the Fidelio app running and blast music out which is a bit of a shock at 4:30 in the morning!

Not sure whether the unit is faulty or just needs a firmware upgrade, I called the Philips support number and they just told me to contact a local authorised repairer.

Does it always play the music at the same time every morning? Try leaving it unplugged and disconnected from all power for at least an hour. I've been told that this helps to reset electrical products. It may be an internal fault that only a repair agent can resolve?

No it's entirely random and happens even without the iPad docked so it's the Fidelio not the iPad.

when they are paired, even when it's not docked, the music will suddenly be played?
and that's not like some alarm you set?

also, is your fidelio apps open when the issue happened?
there's something triggering your ipad and then the signals are then sent to the docking speakers... i m thinking if u hv set alarm or u hv the apps on...

No the app isn't on and, like I said, the unit turns itself on even without the iPad docked so I know it's nothing to do with iPad/app/alarms etc. Seems to only happen when connected to the AC charger although this is unconfirmed as it's entirely random as to when it happens.

Also notice that when this happens and unit comes on it's impossible to turn it off as when you press the on/off button the unit just comes on again straight away. Very frustrating and I've noticed a user on the Apple reviews saying the same:

"I was prepared to just live with that but next the thing started to come on by itself at FULL VOLUME at various times. My first thought was that it shared some frequency with some neighbor's remote. But, it invariably came on in the middle of the night, at unlikely times for that explanation. Finally, the rechargeable battery life was maybe an hour. My previous device was literally days. Today, after it came on blaring at 2:45 a.m., I finally decided to return it. It may just be a lemon, but I don't have the patience to find out."

since it's quite random in your case, i m not sure if this can help...
so logically it must be something triggering the docking speakers to yell at night... so looking at your case and the apple review case, we are not sure what that something is...

    1. when the songs play at night, are the songs come from iPod (orange apps)/ fidelio apps (philips one) or other apps? basically looking at the screen of your iPad/ iPhone when it yells....

    2. to lessen the possibilities for this case to happen again, just close all the background running apps
(just in case you dont understand my english - double pressing the home button > closing all the apps in the lower panels )

by this, i dont think it can yell anymore...

    Hi Langers1972,

Although you've removed the iPad from the dock if it is playing music then it must be connected to the iPad in some way so it is still possible that something within the iPad is triggering the problem.

For this reason I agree with kwinnie's suggestion of closing all open apps to see if the issue persists in these circumstances.

If the problem does not continue then it must be one of the apps so as kwinnie mentioned try to observe on the iPad's screen what app or source is open.

    Kind regards,

    Gary

    Gary, thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify, when the iPad isn't docked it doesn't play music when the unit comes to life but all the lights come on so I don't think it is the iPad.

I'm having a similar problem with my iPod Touch 4G...

When the music is playing, it seems that the connection with the dock is lost and the player just stops, but the dock doesn't turn off. The volume that was set is lost too, so, when i play again the sound is too loud.

Last night i've left my iPod connected, but with the dock off, and by the morning he was on :S

    Any solution ?

    Thanks

    hi andrepaschoal,
i hv watched your youtube video. since i dont understand the language you speak in the video, do you mean when playing music, the ds8550 ll suddenly stop?

if that s so, it's that just that song or it happens to quite some songs?

    * which iOS you are having?
    * tried closing all background apps?
    * does this solve by a hard reset - unplugging main power for a while n connect that again?

    kwinnie,

Yes, my DS8550 stops suddenly! Doesn't matter which song or device (iPod, iPhone or iPad).

When my device (iPod, iPhone or iPad) is playing through the aux conector the DS8550 just turn off. When playing through the iPod conector the dockstation restart.

    * sounds like a defective product for me.
    * but just in case, try closing all background running apps. double click the home button on your iphone/ipod/ipad. closing all the running apps except the music playing app.
    * tried unplugging your device for like 15 mins and plugging that back

if these dont help. u hv to contact ur local consumer support
