Interesting, but still no word on the poor DLNA implementation and the lockups if you do not hit play/pause during the first minutes of play when playing .AVI from USB/LAN.

Perhaps it has been fixed anyway or disabling the screensaver will solve it.

While it still does not respond to the remote during the first 20 seconds of play there is no longer any need to hit pause (and then play to resume) with .AVI (and .MKV with .AVI) to prevent the player from completely responding to all commands.

Great news! This takes care of the biggest gripe I have with the player. Will check the DLNA and try to find out what other small fixes this release has at a later time, but this was what really annoyed me.

I know, which is what makes me hopeful! Do you have a link to a download page for this release or will it work using the BDP's built-in update feature?

I took a quick look at the product page but they still only have the 1.56.

    Hi,

    Firmware 1.60 is available now.
For which models, if you don't mind my asking?

I have just visited the Philips Brazilian site, and there is no firmware other than version 1.56 for downloading.

Please let me remind you that on-line updates have failed in the latest firmware versions, so that the only way to update our players is by a pen-drive or similar instruments.

    Thanks for clarifying.

It's a pity because I have Jumanji on the way from the US. So far, none of my titles has produced any glitch as far as playback is concerned, and that with version 1.56, which many forum members have complained about.

Maybe I am just lucky. After my player was repaired with new boards I have had no issue with networking or disc playback. I will not be surprised if firmware modifications are made on a model basis, in which case the model I use (/78) may not need a firmware update right now.

Yes, the new FW fixed that, so now I am happy. I have only tried DLNA with the current version of Twonkyvision Media Server, but that worked with 1.56 too. (Not sure if subtitles worked then, but they do now).

I would really like to know if DLNA works like it should with a NAS unit as most NAS units run 4.XX versions of Twonky (some run 5.XX but I have not seen one running 6.3X).

@Andreas: I have a Qnap TS-219P NAS with Twonky Media version 6.0.33. The only thing I'm bothered about is that the BDP does not display external subtitles (.srt) when streaming video from the NAS.
