Interesting, but still no word on the poor DLNA implementation and the lockups if you do not hit play/pause during the first minutes of play when playing .AVI from USB/LAN.
Perhaps it has been fixed anyway or disabling the screensaver will solve it.

Hi,
often not all fixes are mentioned in the release notes...

I know, which is what makes me hopeful! Do you have a link to a download page for this release or will it work using the BDP's built-in update feature?
I took a quick look at the product page but they still only have the 1.56.

Hi,
Firmware 1.60 is available now.
I have just visited the Philips Brazilian site, and there is no firmware other than version 1.56 for downloading.
Please let me remind you that on-line updates have failed in the latest firmware versions, so that the only way to update our players is by a pen-drive or similar instruments.

Hi,
for the BDP8000/12 model just download the ZIP-file - it contains the latest version...

Thanks for clarifying.
It's a pity because I have Jumanji on the way from the US. So far, none of my titles has produced any glitch as far as playback is concerned, and that with version 1.56, which many forum members have complained about.
Maybe I am just lucky. After my player was repaired with new boards I have had no issue with networking or disc playback. I will not be surprised if firmware modifications are made on a model basis, in which case the model I use (/78) may not need a firmware update right now.

besides the BDP8000/12 the update is now also available for BDP8000/78 and BDP8000/51.

Thanks for the heads up. I am downloading it right now. Evaluations, if any, will be posted later.

While it still does not respond to the remote during the first 20 seconds of play there is no longer any need to hit pause (and then play to resume) with .AVI (and .MKV with .AVI) to prevent the player from completely responding to all commands.
Great news! This takes care of the biggest gripe I have with the player. Will check the DLNA and try to find out what other small fixes this release has at a later time, but this was what really annoyed me.

level 5 mkv you mean video profile L.5.1?
it's not likely can be added i think as they mention that this format is not standardized... they cannot guarantee that all L5.1 file can be played ...
read this in another thread...very early thread...Last edited by kwinnie; 10-04-2011 at 03:25 AM. Reason: typo
