NP3900: Turn off display while music continues

    Hey.

I would like to have setting where the display is dimmed or turned off after a certain time while music is still playing.

    My scenario is this:
    1. I lie in bed and start my favorite channel or audiobook. - NP3900 in normal mode with bright display
    2. I set the sleep timer to half an hour so. - Playback continues with bright display
    3. Sleep timer kicks in. - Display is dimmed according to my settings

You see that during 2 - while listening to the playback - the display is in normal mode. It will not turn off and continue to play after some time.

I know that I can dim the display manually, but this means that in case I want to skip a track or so, I have re-adjust the display brightness again.

    Thanks.

Well, rather simple. Go to ...

Settings / Display settings / Backlight timer / ... and then select the time it shall time-out the backlight.

    It works ...

Seems Philips did some improvements compared to NP3900.

    And now for NP3700/12...

Great! Thanks, Blechtrommel, I did not know about this feature. This is exactly what I was looking for.

When I got my first NP3700 I checked out most of the settings, but when I got the second device (the NP3900) a few days later, I did not look close enough.

Now I would like to rename my wish to: 'Add Backlight timer to NP3700'.

Actually, I am quite surprised that NP3700 and NP3900 do not use the same firmware...

Philips, is it planned to add the Backlight timer feature to the NP3700, too?

    Red face

I guess it shall be possible via SW.

Both the units appear to have an improved version of the NP2900 (which has only 1 step DIM). So, would assume a backlight timer could be added to the NP3700.

So, maybe you buy some candles ...

    Backlight timer for NP3700

Guess I now only can wait for Philips to update the firmware and make the NP3700 and NP3900 more similar to each other on these small but useful features.

Any experience how responsive Philips is? Because so far it has been quiet from an official side.

Well, in the past Philips had a response time (to release new firmware) about once every 1/2 year. Haven't seen recently any new SW for the NP3700 ...

    So there shall be hope.
