LED Pro Models' Specs

Hello again Philips!...

The last few weeks I am seeing more and more discussions around the web regarding the specs of the 9606, especially about the amount of Local Dimming Zones and the number of LEDs. These discussions are started because of some old and confusing data that is floating around and... this is causing potential customers to be scared away, since that old "data" is way off.

Of course I supplied them with the correct numbers, but since I'm not from Philips myself, and even the (German) Philips Chat doesn't know the answers to this, people don't know who to believe... understandably.

So that's why I made a complete list of all the LED Pro models. The only thing I ask is, could you Philips maybe confirm these numbers (or correct them if I made a mistake myself ), so people can be reassured by this?...

thanks for answering so quickly.

About the number of LEDs I can understand that it is "internal", but... the amount of Local Dimming Zones can be counted by the owner very easily; that's how I got to know the amount for the 32PFL9705 myself, so... nothing secret about that, is there!?...
The number of LEDs for the 46" models from 2009/2010/2011 was made public at their release dates as well, so the only things "secret" are the LED numbers for the other sizes.

Without this (obvious) information, people are relying on false data saying for example "the 52 inch version has less zones and LEDs than the 46 inch one", which is causing people to say then: "thanks, but no thanks". So... are you sure to keep this a "secret"!?...

I can confirm that the 46" 9705 has 224 zones, in an array of 16*14 zones.
I have measured them my self.

And I have "peaked" some manuals, and had made a post in the Greek forum (your numbers match mine):

I am one of those possible customers that already took a closer look on the 52 inch model of the 9606 series. As reported to me in two different philips support chat sessions the 9606 series TVs have less backlight LEDs compared to the 9706 and 9705 TVs.

Here is a cite from one chat session (translated from german):
Agent: The backlight of the 52PFL9606 consists of 896 LEDs in 112 dimming zones.

So this fact will prevent me from buying the new 52" 'flagship' TV since my current 9705 has twice as much LEDs for a more than 20% smaller display area!

If that information is correct the prices for the 9606 TVs are too high in my honest opinion.

I do not understand why the technical data of a television must be secret. If Philips does not want to reveal them is because something negative hides.

The data provided by EdgarPrao probably to be certain. In the website of Philips your can see the contrast of the 9606 series (40pfl9606 and 52pfl9606) is 5,000,000: 1. This contrast is half of the 2010 series 9705 (10,000,000: 1). Therefore the series 9606 2011 zones must be less than zones of the 2010 series.

With regard to price, 40pfl9606 and 52pfl9606 cost the same as 46pfl9706 in/d ratio to their area. But 40pfl9606 and 52pfl9606 have not moth eye, not bright pro and less zones local dimming. The prices for the 9606 TVs are too high in my honest opinion. What do you think?

I can assure you my data is correct, and those Chat people you spoke with really don't know what they're talking about when it comes to this... The Philips guys here do but, as you saw above, are still a bit reluctant to share this information with us.

No, the fact that the contrast of the 40/52" 9606 is half the (40/46") 9705 contrast, has nothing to do with the number of zones, but with the absence of Bright Pro.

As Freddy mentioned directly in the post before yours, the lack of the BrightPro Feature leads to a lower in-image contrast. BrightPro illuminates only the bright regions inside an image even more to increase the difference in luminance between dark and bright image regions.

If you prefer watching TV in a dark room and therefore reduce the total brightness of your TV (e.g. by activating the light sensor) the BrightPro feature will not make a large difference in image contrast. But if the backlight is already at a high level (e.g. when watching in daylight) the BrightPro feature really pushes bright reagions to create a nearly glaring effect which looks very impressing (at least to me).

Everyone knows the amount of leds are easily counted if they rip of the LCD part. So how can this be internal information. It's like asking Volkswagen how many tires a VW Golf has.

This forum is also crap. No bugs that are listed here are actually solved. People only complain and there isn't even one engineer from Philips who has taken the time to actually study the HDMI sound issue. Or who has asked us to reproduce a problem or even send a PM.

I actually wonder how they know what issue's to fix, if you call Philips Servicedesk the regular answer is. "I have never heard that before" and "We will send a technical guy to look at the problem" and they KNOW it is a firmware bug.
