    Question Pixel Defect

    Hello All,

    I'm a new owner of a 37PFL9606.
    FYI: this is my first LCD TV.
    Very happy so far.

    Only problem: I've a small dark spot (like an always black pixel, or a small dust in the screen) near the upper left corner.
    Hardly visible at more than two meters but nevertheless annoying sometimes.

    I've two questions:

    - Is it common in Philips LCD LED TV to have this kind of panel imperfection (not sure it can be called a defect).

    - Is their a way to solve the problem (I've a 5 years extended warranty), should I ask a panel exchange ?

    Hi Kr.,

    Pixel defects do not happen so much anymore, but cannot be completely prevented.
    Also dark defects are less annoying then bright spots.
    It is also covered in the beginning of the Product User Manual:

    For dark defects (dot defect or foreign material on backlight) the spec's are:
    - Max 7 dark dots (adjacent dark dots count as 2).
    - Max 5 'point' defects D<1.2 mm.
    - Max 5 'long' defects W<1mm, L<10 mm.
    - FHD-screens: max 2 pair of adjacent dark dots, volume limit is 5% (dGG < 0.5%).

    So, I'm afraid that one dark spot of yours is within the spec.

    To help the now frightened brhume a little:

    while it may, or may not be within spec (as you didn't say exactly how big the spot is), it is often covered in an extended warranty. So if it bothers you, and if you can still see it from 2m distance it certainly would bother me, the best thing to do is ask the shop where you bought it if a defect like this is covered.

    Another thing to try first, is to see if it is simply a mark on the screen itself, that could be removed by cleaning it gently. I've had that myself, so...

    I've to say I'm a bit sensitive to pixel defect. In 3 days of use, I'm the only one in my family to have noticed this spot.
    You're right to say dark defects are less visible than bright spots.
    Probably a lot of users have pixel defects but just ignore (looks like a small piece dust on the screen) or don't see it.

    Indeed, I'm well within the specs.
    Nevertheless I will contact my vendor to check if my warranty cover this or not.

    Thank you for your answer.

    Unfortunately, it's not a mark on the screen.

    The spot has the size of +/- one pixel. So very small (<1mm).
    As I know it is here, I can spot it from 2m when a light/white background is displayed, but not with a blue/red/green background.
    At 3m it's nearly impossible to spot it.
    Also, it is located just near the upper border of the screen, far to the left: it's easy to forget about it in normal use.

    But as I paid for an extended warranty, I'm going to check with the shop.

    If it really is only one pixel, you have X-Ray vision!...
    For one dead pixel on a reasonable spot, I would not exchange it. Chances are the next will have more... so be careful.

    You're right, another panel may have more annoying problems...

    Furthermore, this 37PFL9606 give me great satisfaction so far: HD channels render wonderfully, as well as the DVD movies (not have B-R yet).
    The "mat" finish of the panel give a "satin" look to the picture.
    A reason (among others) why I choose Philips instead of another brand.

    It's only a 4 days experience though...
