HTML5 support in Philips TVs
Hi,
I would like to ask what the situation is with HTML5 support in Philips TVs.
Is HTML5 already supported and in which models?
Or is it part of the Net TV feature?
Thx

Hi,
Philips devices have a Opera Web browser integrated:
2011: Opera/9.80 (Linux mips ; U; hbbtv/1.1.1 (;Philips;;;; ) CE-HTML/1.0 NETTV/3.0.0; en) Presto/2.6.33 Version/10.70
2010: Opera / 9.70 (Linux mips; U; CE-HTML/1.0 (<profilelist><ui_profile name=“PHILIPS_OLS_2010″/></profilelist>); en) Presto/2.2.1
So, if you can find out the functionality of the different versions / rendering engines... ;-)

Many thanks for your quick and kind reaction Toengel!!
I see that Opera 9.8 supports HTML5 but what I still do not understand is to which extent I will be able to (openly) browse the internet and by which mechanism (NetTV? HTML5? HbbTV?).
I know that a first limitation comes from availability of the right codecs (list of supported codecs previously published by Philips), but now the next question is, are there more limitations even for those codecs which are supported? (e.g. "incompatibility" between the <video> tag and a specific codec; format; bit rate; rendering;....)
Many thanks in advance!!

A TV cannot be a replacement of a browser in a PC. No matter what features are supported by the browser, you will always be limited by the amount of RAM available to the TV, which is not that much.

For Opera 9.7, I think HTML5 is not supported. I did not find a document saying that, but running a simple testcase with a video tag showed me, that this did not work.
For 2010 TVs, the only way to embed a video seems to be the object tag. So the 2010 TVs do not support HTML5.

Hi,
maybe someone can find a link to a test suite, which we can open in the "open internet"...
