Picture Format (aspect ratio)
I bought 42pfl7606 some days ago.
I tried different mkv-sources from USB-HDD and can't find an option that matches the resolution of my movies. Some movies in 16:9 (1080p) work fine but most movies in other format like 21:9 are stretched vertically or centered in the middle of the screen but not maximised.
Can s.o. please explain what the options (Auto fill, Auto zoom, Super zoom, Movie expand 16:9, Wide screen) exactly do.
Why is there no option to simply keep the aspect ratio AND maximise the movie? Something like "touch screen from inside" (and add black bars) or "touch screen from outside" (and cut some borders)!
Or is there a way to manipulate the movie-files (without recompile them in 16:9)?
I don't want to see stretched faces on a TV like that.
Please, Philips-Guys, fix this or help me find the right settings.
Thanks.

Hi,
can you please post the video resolutions of videos where this works and where it don't!
Also please mention your TV model and install the latest firmware (post also the firmware version).

Hi,
download MediaInfo (mediainfo.sourceforge.net) and examine the files and post the resolutions...

Anyone tried to contact the Philip's Support? Sent an email, made a phone call? Nothing? Because I'm pretty sure that anyone from Philips read this forum. This is only for customers change ideas.

Hi guys,
I'm having the same issue as everyone else above with my 37PFL5604H/12. Since 21:9 ratio is becoming more and more standardized in the movies, I find it a huge flaw that we can't put our Philips TV into the right aspect ratio when using USB or external media HDD. The 21:9 video-file is stretched vertically and for me this is unwatchable. Why can't Philips add the possibility to put black bars above and below for these formats? My small, 6 year old 26" Samsung TV can manage this...

I've been having similair problems with my HTS9520.
But when I changed the size to 16/9 from 16/9 widescreen it shows as it's supposed to be.
I don't know if you can change this on a television to.
But this was the solution for me. Maybe it can work for you guys aswell.
