Finally, Philips transferred its TV business

    http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchin...t_14028247.htm

Finally Philips Electronics is to transfer its television business into a joint venture with TPV. The new company will be 70% owned by TPV and 30% by Philips, and will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, distribution, marketing and sales of Philips' Television.

With only 30% Philips has little to say. Therefore the new televisions will be MADE IN CHINA.

Probably the new TVs will have to be cheaper.

I think that TPV would decide how and where manufacture. I think that is MADE IN CHINA.

    Best Regards

Many products are made in china. Look at the iPhone "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China". But if you look at value which is added by each country, china adds a very minor part of the whole value. There are many parts in a supply chain of modern consumer electronics.

I do not know the whole story, but I think it will be the same for Philips. They are good in innovation and research. But today you have also to push low cost TVs into the market. For low cost TVs, innovation is the smallest part in the chain. For low cost TVs the knowledge on how to put together established state of the art components matters. This is a difference.

    Apple is not just Philips.

Here the power will have the Chinese (70%). They will design, manufacture and sell according to their way of being. I think the Chinese are going to reduce the cost and quality.

Most Chinese products are cheap and of poor quality. MADE IN CHINA is not the same as Made In Germany for example.

    Best regards.

The basic line a philips Tv's, are TPV products for a a few years ( maybe 4 or 5 years), only Tvīs with a NXP (Funded by Philips but now own by trident) are Tv's made by Philips.
If you see near a Serial number some like chassis TPMxxx this is a TPV Tv, now days only Chassis Qxxx, are philips made, and they are mid and top Tvīs.
Almost all chassis are made in Chine, but some final assembly it's made im some European contryes.

That already knew. The issue is that power is now Chinese.

The Chinese are experts in making products cheap, low quality (type low ranges of 3000, 4000, 5000, Philips with processor and chassis tpm).

The Chinese have no experience in high ranges Philips (8000 9000 processor npx and chassis Qxxx) by which the quality of Philips probably disappear.

This is what will make the Chinese: reduce costs and quality.

Maybe, or maybe not, they buy technology and patent.
Do you remember what was Samsung and LG a few years ago, only cheap products, and now.

I wish I had your predictive capabilities...

Only time will tell how the brand will go. I wish they follow a path similar to lenovo (which still makes good laptops).
