For those with "unknown disc" issue, try using a CD lens cleaner (a special CD with a small brush). There may be dust on the lens of your reader. I know it worked for me.

    Hi

Some 3D discs do not play correctly on this player. Namely: Prometheus, Drive Angry, Green Hornet, Rio, Gulliver's Travels, Narnia Voyage of the Dawn Treader... They play as if the left and right fields are out of sync.

I have posted this previously on another thread to which many other people have the same problem. I received an email from Phillips back in October asking for the EAN codes of the discs which I supplied....but then nothing. And then on checking the thread this morning it has been "closed" without anything been advised as to whether the problem can be fixed with a firmware update or in fact any information at all. After care really is lacking.

I was recommended posting in this forum. So here goes again!

    Prometheus (EAN 5-039036-054478)
    Gulliver's Travels (EAN 8-712626-054030)
    Drive Angry (EAN 5-060223-764801)
    The Green Hornet (EAN 4-030521-724938)

    Model: BDP5200/12
    Firmware: 1.61

    Regards

    Darin.

    Hello Philips,

almost a year ago I reported that Ice Age 3D is not playing correctly.
It looked as if the left and right eye were out of sync. When I paused the movie and first looked with my left eye and than with my right eye it was clear that there was a mismatche in frames for the left and right eye.

Firmware 1.55 fixed the problem. Last september I installed ver 1.61. So my BDP5200/12 has the latest firmware.

Last weekend I tried to watch Ice age 3 3D again and I was very surprised that what you say that ver.1.61 solved, was back again.
    What happend here Philips??
Ver 1.55 releasenotes don't mention improving playback of Ice age 3 3d but it solves the playback malfuntion!
Ver 1.61 releasenotes mention "playability improvement of ice age 3d" but it brings back the problems!!!
The EAN code of the disc is: 8712626096047

    Please bring back firmware 1.55!!

My BDP5500/98 with latest firmware v3.71 cannot play two blu rays properly from X-men trilogy set.

    EAN 0 24543 58131 4 80

    1. X2 disc 1 (movie disc), black screen need to press next tract on remote to get disc menu. No background only menu options shown. in track 39 about time 2:04:00 into movie, the picture stutters.

    2. X-men last stand disc 1 (movie disc). Cannot play at out and shows screen saying player need update on firmware. When pressing info on remote and choosing disc menu BD-J error 0242 shown. Cannot do anything to get to disc menu even with/without internet connection, with/without usb drive for bd-live.

The rest of discs play fine even for my other disc Wolverine and X-men last stand (2 other movies not in this package but also from Fox)

    Suspect firmware issue.

    Please help.

    Hi,

The topic itself goes back some time, that’s correct. Reason for this is to keep it simple; all posts relating to disc issues in one place, old and new.

In terms of software, there is, unfortunately no “timetable” when new software is to be released. Normally the software developers take in to account other reported performance issues and make further improvements before a new software version is release.

    Kind Regards,

    Marcus

hi, unknown disk for "rien à déclarer" french bluray ,
    bar code 3 388330 040147 + 5218895

Read carefree few months ago and since unrecognized.

Bluray reader philips BDP5180/12, serial number SM1A1044038645

I contacted support French philips asked me to unplug the mains cable and plug again. but it is useless because when I do not use platinum, it remains off.

    Well

Here goes posting in yet another thread for the fourth time...

    Model: BDP5200/12
    Firmware: 1.61

Some 3D discs do not play correctly on this player. Namely: Prometheus, Drive Angry, Green Hornet, Rio, Gulliver's Travels, Narnia Voyage of the Dawn Treader... They play as if the left and right fields are out of sync. Prometheus (EAN 5-039036-054478), Gulliver's Travels (EAN 8-712626-054030), Drive Angry (EAN 5-060223-764801), The Green Hornet (EAN 4-030521-724938).

I have posted this previously on various threads which I was advised to when I got no answer. I eventually received an email from Phillips back in October asking for the EAN codes of the discs which I supplied....but then nothing. Eventually the threads that have been posted are "closed" and nothing is ever done.

This has to be the worst customer service I have experienced. Obviously the goods are not "fit for purpose" under the Trade Descriptions Act and Consumer Goods Act.

I have now been advised to post in this thread....so let's see!

    Darin.

i do agree with drodgers, although i received an answer from Marcus, it would be customer service when replies were given to the posters!!!
ie , we are working on the matter: we have resolved problems with .......
    still working on ....
as i mentioned before thread goes back to 2011, but unfortunately so does my latest software update.
i did not purchase Philips for a life time of 1-2 years.
plse i understand you want to sell new machines , but do not forget your customers who bought Philips in the past 10 years
