BDP5200 doesn't recognize BD-RE discs
Hello everyone!
My Philips BDP5200/51 doesn't recognize new Verbatim BD-RE DL 50GB discs. If I use the discs I bought a couples of months ago, the player can read them, but when I try using the discs I've just bought, it says that the discs are unsupported (or something like that). Actually I suppose that the problem is, due to the discs' MIDs. Perhaps BDP5200 (its firmware) doesn't support these MIDs yet.
I think so, because when I tried to format and clean the new discs, my PC said that it couldn't do this. I googled it, and found out, that my BD drive doesn't support the new MIDs, so that I had to update my BD drive's firmware. When I did it, it started to work OK for me. The new MIDs have became supported.
So, I'm here to ask you if there is a possibility to do something to make my BDP5200 recognize new BD discs? Here are examples of supported (old) and unsupported (new) MIDs:
Supported: TDKBLD-Wfa-000
Unsupported: VERBAT-IM1-000
Anyways. I think Philips has to release new firmware which could provide supporting this MID.
I really hope Philips will fix the problem as soon as possible.
Kindest regards,
Vitali.Last edited by caterp1llar; 11-22-2011 at 10:00 AM.

Hi,
please always indicate a number - the online update does not always deliver the latest one...

Well, actually it looks like Philips doesn't care of our problems.
Definitely, next time I'll choose another brand.

Do not agree on that. Maybe this has to be tested also, the same as with blu ray movies.
Have seen various forums where they mention problems with Verbatim.....and they were not talking about Philips

Hi caterp1llar
What was the SW that was used to record the disc?
Did you already try another BD authoring/recording SW to see if the problem is not related to the one that you are using?

To record all the discs (supported and unsupported by the player), I use LG BD-RE BH08LS20 recorder with the latest firmware. I have old and new BD discs, and if I record the same Blu-ray films to these discs, old discs always work, but the new ones always don't. As I already said, I think (I'm even sure), that the problem is that Philips haven't updated the firmware yet, so it doesn't support the method of reading these new discs. I'm a programmer, so I know what I say. Every type of discs (with its unique MID) has a specific way of reading themselves, and whenever there are new discs with new MIDs, manufacturers of players and recorders have to update their firmwares by adding to these firmwares the best methods to read new discs.
Regards.

By the way, as for my BD recorder, it has started working fine with these new discs, after I had updated its firmware, so I'm sure the problem is not with my recorder.
