TV crashes when viewing media through usb

I just bought a new 40PFL7605H three weeks ago and connected a hard disk via usb to watch some media directly through the browse usb option. Practically each time I try to do this, the tv crashes after 30 mins into the movie and when I try to switch back on, the stand by light starts blinking.

I looked through the manual for some info on this and all it says is that you need to take off the power cable for a while. I also tried this and basically the stand by light does not light up at all. This has been going on almost everyday and I end up having to wait for over 10 hours until the tv can power up again. Unfortunately there is no pattern to this and I'm not really sure what's happening.

Also upgraded the software to the latest firmware but that didn't fix it. Is anyone else having the same trouble? I tried to look up the forums and it seems that crashes are quite normal on these models! any ideas what I can do?

I ran the software update directly from the tv (not from a usb stick) and the latest software version detected was 140.25. I knew there was another more recent version but somehow it was not picked up.

    Hi,

there are different servers between online and usb update... Online update takes always a litte bit more time until release... sometimes an update is only available via online update and sometime only available via usb update...

Thanks! I will update manually then and see how it goes. Hope it fixes the issue - although my problem does not seem to be specifically mentioned in the release notes.

    Hi,

often some fixes are not mentioned in the release notes. But if your error still occur, call your local Philips support...

maybe you use additional usb f/m cable to connect hard drive ?
Some 2.5" USB hard drive need external power supply, without that TV can crash from energy disadvantage.

    Hi,

If you can reproduce the crashes... as vaidas said, it could be due to the lack of energy of the HDD... move your ear near to the HDD and listen if the HDD is spinning down abruptly short before your tv crashes...

hi, My 55PFL7606?T crashes when playing from all typesof USB hard drives, mains poweredd or USB powered, even from USB latest fastset Flash drive... NTFS or Fat 32...

Philips said they are aware of smart TV issues in this model, took it out ofstock for 2 weeks, now back.

I returned the TV & exchanged it for a new one that arrived 2 days ago 25/11/11 & still having teh same crashing problems, when using any of teh smart functions: Net TV, USB play back, DLNA streaming using 2 differentDLNA, windows media 11 & AllShare.

I kind of gave up on PHILIPSE as a smart TV.. it isonly as good as a TV but without any of teh smart functions..

    any solutions????
